As said already, I'll take it how it comes. Disputed goal, drab 0-0, undeserved win, goal difference whatever. And I will have a smile on my face all summer.......
Bloody hell, this is starting to sound like Prem survival in 2009 - ie the only reason we stayed up is cos Newcastle lost or there were three worse teams than us, (at least according to bitter rival fans at the time). So I guess we're only 2nd now because 22 teams have done worse than us.
Personally I couldn't be happier. I don't think the cautious souls on here miserable nor not proper fans or anything like that. It's just simple common sense not to think it's job done already and I hope the players aren't reacting like some of the fans. When it's official I'll be celebrating with the best of them.
People who are criticising the result tonight should remember what a desperately important match it was for a Wolves team that have a lot of Premiership experience. If the positions had been reversed our fans would have been demanding a win, yet some seem to think we must have been crap because they beat us. It isn't that simple.
But we're not there yet! We have to make sure it's done on Friday. Win and it's pretty much done by 5pm Saturday. Until then the team to focus and put promotion to the back of their minds.
Some are teetering on the brink. I can sense it. Some are desperate to rubbish Simmo or Fathi. Promotion is only certain when our position is unassailable. However, the art of talking it up and BELIEVING in the outcome plays its part too. Too bad we have so many fans who don't buy into that.
We should have won tonight, Simpson hit the woodwork so it was touch and go whether we would draw. Either way, Wolves are fighting for their lives. Would have settled for a draw but tonight it was not meant to be. Bring on Bristol City.
It's certainly now the most likely. That being said, Watford have now won just one of the last 7 games and play an improving Blackburn side on Saturday.
Wotchoo talkin bout Willis noone is criticising the team. Just a few people calling for calm heads until the job is done that's all.
Fathi was awesome and Simmo came 1/2 width of the post from equalising tonight. Anyone criticising them require a good twatting.
Really pleased Fathi got a start and had a good game....from the little I've seen of him he's looked very decent.
If Watford had managed a draw tonight and pulled the deficit back to 5 points it wouldn't have made a scrap of difference to how it is now, they would still need to win two more than us with only three games to do it in. Correction :-The only difference it would have made is that we would have had ten times more 'wobblers' on here.
On paper we should have beat Wolves and Watford should have beaten Millwall. Thus maintaining 6 points difference with 9 to play for. Actually City lost to Wolves and Watford lost to Millwall. Thus maintaining 6 points difference with 9 to play for. Football, its a silly old game.
I was a bit down for half an hour after the final whistle, if Simpsons shot had gone in it would have made the crowd bigger and the atmosphere better on Friday night. But, having thought about it I'm really grateful for the position we're in. Many thanks to the Allams who've made all this possible.
We finally got the point we needed and most of us were not celebrating till tonight. Its been a real battle with you and Watford and I sincerely hope you both make it with us. jck
Ipswich and Wolves successive away games at this stage of the season and both decent sides with lots to play for- some people need to get real on this board - since we lost Aluko virtually in November how we've managed to score enough goals to grab second spot is beyond me - Koren with nine being top scorer ffs.. Luckily its a very even division this year as it was in 2007-2208 - don't give a toss about any of that as long as we go up..
How can you claim or celebrate something that isn't? Overall we're doing okay, but not fantastic on a per game basis. Wolves were weak in their team strength but our strikers failed to make that crucial game-turning move that wins games, they failed to score. We are grinding out enough results to be 2nd, but grinding is a dangerous tactic that can leave you on a unexplained losing run. When your strikers can't buy a goal, the fans are normally buying big slices of humble pie, so let.s be positive from our position but allow concern over form. Don't let's take anything for granted, let's stop guessing and proclaiming as certain our promotion, because we aren't and, perhaps, with the performances of our rivals, we should have been. The team need a kick up the arse from SB, supporters need to keep their powder dry and I hope we will be able to celebrate at 5pm on Satdee. Not failing to get behind the team, but not chuffing out the chest until we have a reason. Like I've said all along,it's always the next game that's your big one, so let's pay Bristol their due respect and turn up to play them off the pitch.
