Except in exceptional circumstances like last season's huge luck for Chelsea it's normally the teams which finish top or second in their leagues which win it not those who just scrape through.

    again, anything can happen!
In all seriousness though, I do agree with you. But right now is not a good time to be hoping that our opposition is at full strength, IMO.
We've been good this season overall, and have been 3rd & 4th for a large chunk of it. That's enough to tell me that we're worthy contenders for a CL place. :)

I might be at risk of jinxing it but I'm quite pleased with that, I was sure they were going to use one of their favourites for what is still a big game.

Aguero's been officially let off so no fortune there. I don't know how the FA keep getting away with having that stupid rule.

Injuries have not been kind to Kaboul. I hate saying it, but he does seem quite prone, which is concerning.

Gotta be honest I can't see us getting anything from this (sorry for the negativity guys :().

City have come off the back of some impressive wins of late, Utd away and Chelsea in the Semis and despite his wreckless lunge on Luiz, Aguero is looking dangerous while our defence is looking woeful, so it doesn't bode well for me.

    Team I'd go for:

    Lloris,
    Walker, Dawson, Vertonghen, Ekotto
    Parker, Dembele
    Lennon*, Bale**, Sigurdsson
    Ade

    * Dempsey and/ or Holtby to play if Lennon and/ or Bale aren't fit.

    Think it'll be 2-1 City.

Here's hoping I have a Lawro effect in which if I predict us to lose, we'll come up with a surprise :D

    COYS!

While they have had some good result's they are not consistent, depends what team turn's up imo,and the player's might have an eye on the cup final, and not want to get injured

Yeah definitely agree with that mate they do blow hot and cold, it's just talent wise, they're much stronger than us at the moment and are no doubt full of confidence.

<laugh> Don't even know what it means but sounds funny!

    Lloris,
    Walker, Dawson, Caulker, Vertonghen
    Parker, Dembele
    Dempsey, Holtby, Gylfi
    Ade

That team (or something like it) has been better than I would have thought--four points against Swansea and Everton, and a good effort against Basel. Dempsey, Gylfi and Ade all have good goalscoring records over the last few games. Walker and Vertonghen have been key to the attack. I'm afraid the rumors about Beni may have unsettled him, so I'd start Jan at left back. It's a tough call, because Jan in the center instead of Caulker might prevent a goal or two.

No doubt it's a big ask playing against an all-star team like Man City. But the more I think about it, the less I like playing Lennon or Bale. Lennon's bad hamstring means he probably should take the rest of the year off, and almost certainly won't be the great player we've enjoyed watching this year. Bale shouldn't be rushed back. I also think it sends the wrong message to the team to start a half-crocked star. People won't play with confidence unless you show you have confidence in them.

    C'mon Spurs!

whilst i think you're absolutely spot on there, RWAEB, we're at too much of a crucial stage of the season. If Bale's fit, he needs to play over Dempsey. Sorry, but Dempsey might not even be with us next season and we've got a 4th place to chase!

on a different note, is this you in disguise? https://twitter.com/usasoccerguy
It's a very good parody account. I can just imagine it being you, using all the american sports terminology to wind everyone up! <laugh>

If Bale, Lennon and Defoe are all unavailable, then I'd bench Dempsey, stick Dembele down the right and start Huddlestone or Carroll alongside Parker.
We need the creativity and it would clutter our attacks a little less.

PNP, sounds like a good idea. Maybe start Carroll and bring in Hudd if we go behind. I really doubt we'll see it after Dempsey's two goals, though. The main thing is, we've gotta keep the three midfielders from clumping together like overcooked pasta. I'd like to have someone designated to pull the strings in the center, whether it's Gylfi, Holtby, or even Dembele.

Roo, nope. He seems cool, but I don't twat.

  16. I would be nervous about starting Carroll in MF against Citeh. For all their inconsistency this year, they are likely to start with a very physical middle trio of Yaya Toure, Barry and Milner. I know that will bring comments around the subject of 'if he's good enough, he's big/strong enough' but I reckon that would be a baptism of fire that he may not be up to. Hudd however, does have the requisite experience and from recent outings appears to be showing some of his old creativity.....

Agreed, however it looks like Silva's back so maybe Milner isn't a certainty. I think we'll definitely need Parker for this one, they'll have at least one of Nasri and Silva on the wing and cutting in so I'd like us to try Parker sitting with Huddlestone and Dembele ahead of him. Fingers crossed Bale and Lennon can play wide and move inside to help out Ade, I don't fancy Bale starting in the middle up against Barry and Toure, that's got injury written all over it.

We will more than likely play Milner & Silva in a 4-2-3-1 which we play a lot away at the better sides

    Hart
    Zabaleta Kompany Nastasic Clichy
    Milner Barry
    Tevez yaya Silva
    Aguero

    That would be my guess

Are there any away friendly pubs near the lane?
Would normally drink in central London but the 1-30 kick off won't make that possible?

Thanks for the information. Looks a decent side. Do you think you'll take the game against Wigan seriously? I could see either not caring too much, and giving a number of players a a rest, or not wanting Wigan to have a good result to look back on in the FA Final, and maybe resting a player or two against Spurs.
