As opposed to the Tories that got about a third of the vote in 2010?
The Tory party are funded by individuals out of the goodness of their hearts and do not have any self interest. Once elected, they make no demands on the government to repay their investment.
They are truly wholesome people.

I agree with the sentiments. My only surprise is that you haven't blamed Mrs Thatcher for this along with eevrything else!

Well I don't think we know who did this yet but you could certainly point the finger at Thatcher and other capitalist leaders for the Al Qaida bombings.

Hang on Warky, he and his ilk have a point: third on the stated list of Al Quida gripes against the West is us stopping the Indonesian genocide (cue the sixth-form whines that it was Kissinger’s fault in the first place) in East Timor. Upstanding Muslims slaughtering largely Portuguese speaking Christians. How noble that the Guardianistas support genocide if it means being nice to those put-upon Muslim wingnuts. PC brownie points there. (That was the reason they gave for the Bali bombing by the way; the evil West interfering in a noble Muslim genocide against non-Muslims.)

And how evil of the “capitalist” liberal democracies not to ignore the tradition of free speech and free press by banning Danish cartoons, as a coterie of Muslim wingnut representatives demanded on pain of mayhem.

And how wildly provocative of Britain to harbour a girl shot in the face by bearded buffoons for wanting to go to school, who, the Guardianistas would have it, are merely practicing their noble culture and completely within their (human) rights to plant bombs in public places because of the West’s evil insistence that women should have equal rights.

If we are to kowtow to Islamic fascists (as we should) we have to give up all traditional Western notions of freedom and responsibility – but then the capitalist west is inherently evil – much better to live under an insane theocracy or authoritarian socialism. At least then toilet cleaners wouldn’t be poor and oppressed like they are in terrible capitalist states with no hope of ever getting a better job, or women would have to put up with having acid thrown in their faces for looking at a boy. Oh, hang on…

There are some things to be abhorred in Muslim culture, the suppression of women stands out for me. But to talk about imposing our lifestyle on the rest of the world or to think that we do things better is exactly the sort of arrogance that makes us a target. Let's not forget that three teenage kids were found guilty of beating a tramp to death for a laugh this week.

Just catching a bit of the funeral and can't get that age old chant and a song out of my head... 'dig a hole...' and 'The Roof is on fire'.

As a matter of interest, where do you copy and paste this hillbilly drivel from?

I am really pleased that her funeral took place in a truly dignified way and that the overwhelming majority of people where there to show respect. It makes me so proud to be British!

I think the majority of people were probably there to take in the spectacle. To suggest otherwise is presumption.

I know a lot has been said about the miners issue on this thread, but did you know a little know fact that Harold Wilson got rid of more miners in his run as prime minister than Maggie.

Why let the facts get in the way of the mythology! <laugh>

I am glad that I made it into Central London to witness this historic event and no sign of any unpleasantness.

This thread is a wind-up, right?

The only part of the funeral I'm interested in is the bit where Van Helsing turns up to make sure she doesn't come back to life.

I think this whole episode has been a real eye opener about the people around us in this country. Before last week I thought the majority of people in this country were decent, caring, honest, intelligent individuals but I realise now it's probably fairly close to a 50/50 split.

Sorry Yorkie but I find these remarks offensive and rather arrogant. Who are you to sit in judgement in the first place! I profoundly disagree with your political views but I do not seek to judge you yet throughout this debate you have shown your intolerance towards others. Mocking the dead is not the sign of any common decency!
