Cuba is lovely

 

Maybe not if you'd been there in Autumn 1962.

In the fall of 1962, the United States and the Soviet Union came as close as they ever would to global nuclear war. Hoping to correct what he saw as a strategic imbalance with the United States, Soviet Premier Nikita S. Khrushchev began secretly deploying medium range ballistic missiles (MRBM) and intermediate range ballistic missiles (IRBM) to Fidel Castro's Cuba. Once operational, these nuclear-armed weapons could have been used cities and military targets in most of the continental United States. Before this happened, however, U.S. intelligence discovered Khrushchev's brash maneuver. In what became known as the Cuban Missile Crisis, President John F. Kennedy and an alerted and aroused American government, armed forces, and public compelled the Soviets to remove from Cuba not only their missiles but all of their offensive weapons.

 

Where abouts did you go?

 

went overseas 3 times last year, getting married tomorrow, may get to Bali again at the end of the year then planning the big euro trip 204

 

you guys are so lucky you can get too many countries in a short space of time, bali was 6 hr flight, think honkers was 8 hrs, even flying to perth across the country is 5 1/2 hours i think, 3600 km

You should try Whitley Bay on a May Bank Holiday... on second thoughts..... wouldn't wish that on a Mackem...

Wouldn't have fancied Europe much in the early 40s either .... but doesn't stop it being a beautiful place to visit now

Can highliy recommend Marmaris in Turkey.
Beer is cheap, it's red hot and only 50 mins on a hydrofoil from Rhodes.
For trips, you can go to the ancient city of Ephesus as well as visiting many other ancient sites.
A muslim country that embraces the west big time.
The calls to prayer blast out across the residential part and give a very Eastern feel to what is otherwise a very Western orientated resort.
