Aluko's return just strengthens the argument that the flanks and supporting CF are not really an issue - we need a consistent striker at the top level though - preferably not breaking the wage structure and pissing everyone off. Like I said - I really don't think wholesale changes are necessary - but then I do think we need to be trying to emulate WBA and not be too concerned if we come down - stability and development of talented youth is more important in the long-term. Bit of pace at centre-half and a consistent goalscorer would do me.
That's a ridiculous post. He's been criticised for being ****e. Almost everyone agreed over the last couple of weeks that he's been ****e, particularly against Watford. That doesn't suddenly become wrong because he scored a header more recently. No one said he was never going to score again, we said he was playing **** and it was true. He came on and made an impact at Burnley but was still **** in the next few games. That could well be the case again after this weekend's impact from the bench. He isn't suddenly back in red-hot form because he scored one goal. It's depressing that one of the most important goals in the season is just being used an excuse for people to have a go at other fans. As for the OP, there's no way he'll be leaving. His next club will be back in Slovenia or somewhere else abroad I reckon and he'll stay here one more year before doing that. At the moment he's a first team player and I don't think we'll make as many signings in the summer as people might expect. He'll definitely have a role to play.
I'm not too bothered if he was to go. He's a player who has immense ability but never really puts in the effort and doesn't really perform to the levels he's capable of. He's like the opposite of Evans. Imo Boyd is way better anyway
Seperate to the Koren situation (sort of) we'd better, we've currently only got 16 players contracted for next season, including Townsend, McLean, Stewart, and Jakupovic. Even if we give McShane a new deal we still need to make a significant number of signings before we even think about letting contracted players like Koren go anywhere.
I've never understood anyone saying that. I think it's just an easy thing to say as a lot of people have started to say it... You really think he doesn't put in effort? He runs his little socks off, and tries to his little heart out, if he didn't he wouldn't be in the team at all. I've also noticed people saying that alot more recently aswell, that he doesn't try and lacks effort, I think you're confusing words a bit there with 'knackered and about to die of exhaustion'. Remember last season when he was a year younger, we'd bring him off early and rest him whenever we could to ensure he was as fresh as possible for the next game, as he couldn't keep up his performance levels and got exhausted if he played too much. That hasn't changed this season, but instead he has pretty much been playing 90 minutes saturday tuesday saturday all season long, so is it really such an unreasonable thought that his performance levels might dive in the later stages of the season after playing more than he's got in him? I also think he's sorely missed having Fryatt in front of him, which has also contributed to him not being as sharp this season, those two had an understanding equal to that of Quinn and Brady and we were used to it. Look how either Brady or Quinn look in the absence of the other, and I think Koren has suffered in the same way.
well he won't have to wait too long for Matty anymore, maybe he's perked up seeing him back.. very true about Quinny & Brady, they're a great partnership..
Seems like we've got quite a big squad when all the injured players are included. Weird. In fairness that applies more to the 'defence-splitting through balls' you keep attributing him with but never actually happen. The work rate thing is weird because sometimes he's a proper workhorse as you say, usually when defending from the front, but it's more when he's expected to get stuck in in midfield that he lacks the effort.
But he does look for those killer passes and does try them, we've seen it plenty in the past. I think a big issue there is there's no one playing off the shoulder. And yeah he doesn't get stuck in but with all due respect to him he's both ****e at tackling and about as heavyweight as a paper aeroplane, he knows it, we all know it, if he goes flying in he's just going to hurt himself and probably get booked or worse. Although there are times he could just nip in and grab the ball quite easily and even contact free but he backs off anyway, it does piss me off sometimes. By now we should be used to it, the last 2 seasons it was just accepted that he can't tackle and only seems to have started to become a more referenced problem this season. Every player at this level has their flaws though. I think with all his attacking talent, if he could win a challenge and got stuck in more, he'd be playing at a level well above us anyway, and in a weird sort of way can count ourselves lucky he is the way he is else we probably wouldn't ever have had him at all, if you know what I mean.
it's a load of utter garbage to suggest he doesn't try. And the comment 'he drifts in and out of games' is crap too. He has been heavily involved in all the games I have seen. And he is putting in more effort than ever ! He is not a great tackler but he does make an effort. His faults are he pulls out of 50 50 tackles and he gives the ball away alot with his passing. He is a goal scoring midfielder and 9 goals in a team that doesn't score many is a great effort ! He will be here next season, if we go up I think he will more of a squad player than this season. Why are people forever going on about him anyway ? Why not talk about Simpson ? On high wages, runs about all day and has missed so many great chances it's a joke ! He wouldn't have scored that header on Saturday !
Agree with BSMan here.... RK is running out of gas, and to be fair I thought hewas excellent against 'Boro.
UTTER BOLLOX,, anyone who even says that Koren will/would be leaving is Not even an average wum-mer. As Thin Lizzy once sang....""Dont Believe A Word""..
^^^^ this also applies to Tom Cairney. A big summer for Tom imo as he needs to be at the races by 17th August. Maybe playing alongside Phil Neville will help Tom along. Just as playing alongside one George Boetang did not so long ago.
We do, but we've got loanees and out of contract players to consider. We need to be giving out probably 8 contracts to new players or out of contract players before we even think about letting anyone else go.
