It's hard enough to attract quality players to a struggling club, as we saw during the last transfer window. Bring in a rule like this and it would make it impossible to get someone to sign on that basis. Of course in hindsight we would have been better off not signing anybody in the last window, but you've got to give it a go. We did and we failed, but it could and should have made the difference to us in our bid for survival.

Maybe they might try harder not to get relegated. There Should be a 50% cut in all contracts (as long as it doesnt put the wage under 10k)when a team is relegated.

If we have players on large salaries who dont have relegation clauses in their contracts, there's only one person responsible and thats Beard, as the CEO, although he would have been well supported by Hughes. But the buck stops with the CEO. The chairman probably wouldnt have been involved in the intimate detail of the deals.

Lets hope its not true though. But I fear it is.

As it was that reptile Joorabchian bringing all that dross into our club they'll probably be on an increase next season. Apparently, Birmingham have players they can't get rid of who are on increases each year of their contract...

What puzzles me is that normal employment contracts have Notice Periods. Don't players contracts? And if not, why not?

Attracting some of your bigger names (particularly in January) would have given the incoming players a strong negotiating position and some may have only been prepared to join if there was no relegation reduction clause.

The word I got a problem with is "Mercenaries" in the OP. Mercenaries get paid a lot, but put their lives on the line. We got none of them, just players who will make as much as they can like most people. Most people are not Mercenaries.

Their contracts are for fixed lengths so they are guaranteed.

On reflection... I should of been a footballer. If only I had my time again I would've listened to my sports teacher Mr Aldridge and carried out his boring drills instead of rolling my eyes and doing fake yawns. Oh how I'd be laughing now. Hindsight eh?

Lol, it's frustrating isn't it mate. He nearly fecked it up when he was lucky enough to make it as well. I've heard or read on here that you were a good 'baller in your day. So was Col & DT apparently. ( Anymore takers? ) I was never going to make it myself although I loved the game. I played for Feltham, that was as good as it got for me.
I did go to school with Sir Les and Wisey though. They did alright. ( Sir Les was playing in goal back then. ) Weird or what?

Yeah, played a bit mate but nothing fantastic.
i seem to remember feltham having a half decnt squad when they played the likes of Southall, harrow borough & Hayes. Maybe a bit after your time mate <laugh>
Yeah, Paul did try his hardest to screw things up for himself but it helped that his old man had the right connections.
i still speak with his brother & sis.
Last time i saw him was when he was at Middlesborugh. Qpr were playing Sunderland away i think & we met him that evening. We were supposed to go back to his place but didnt because Gazza was pissed & asleep in his bedroom !!
    Good old days mate !

That's a great story Queens. That's the kind of thing I love reading on here. Personal insights.
Wisey's old man also had connections down at Southampton. Tbh, he was a run of the mill footballer, but once he got there he really worked his socks off to make the most of it. And boy did he? Fair play to him. He's still a ranger even after playing for.. a-hem.

    Night mate.

Hey, guess what, perhaps some of these 'mercenaries' that we can't get rid of will surprise some of you by turning it all round have having a storming season next year.

That would be just lovely, delightful even, you know what I'm just getting the picture in my head Stan -

It's Tuesday 19th November - We're currently in 7th place which is an OK start, we're playing Doncaster away - It's absolutely peeing down and quite frankly it feels more like Oslo in Feb (ask Oslo!).
Doncaster are truly up for this game as has everyone so far wnating to put one over the "big boys".
Champions League winner Bosingwa is marauding down the right wing expecting a pass from CL winner Park, CL winner Cisse is busting a gut to plough through the excuse for a pitch which is actually a trench. The ball from Park gets caught up in the landslide of a pitch and Doncaster break away - Cisee,Bosingwa & Park immeadiately are on their toes to get back. Fantastically its Granero that saves the day with a lunging tackle running back a full 60 yards.
I've got to say the most impressive thing - and it brings a lump to my throat - is all the bench in unison leaping up applauding this magnificent effort. The mighty Rangers manage to eek out a dour 0-0 and spend almost 5 mins at end of match with their travelling support.

Those dark days of 2012 and 2013 seem an awful long way away - How Harry has managed to gel this team whilst reducing their wages has to go down as the Mangerial achievement of the Century.

The cherry on top for all rrrrrs supporters is the interview at the end of the game where Zamora and Diakite speak out about their love for the game and how representing the mighty rrrrrrs for large sums of pie and mash is the pinnacle of their career.

You know what Stan - We dont need a plan everything is going to be alright!!

    I'm coming Nurse!!!

Actually without the tongue in cheek - you're right, the NPC needn't be a Hell.

However, a positive and quick start is imperative - last time we went down from the Prem we really didn't start playing until it was too late.

There might, just might be a few of our current crop that I might want to let go of during the Summer though.

We actually started quite well but it all went downhill when Gallen broke his leg at Fratton Park in game three or four. The signing of Spencer helped but we were infuriating inconsistent under Houston/Rioch.
