Most are but you do get the real experts like McVeigh who knew exactly what he was doing.

Anders Breivik didn't want to kill as many people as possible with his Oslo bomb, he just wanted to make a distraction. Speaking of which, the police will most likely be on high alert for such a possibility.

Timothy McVeigh. Thankfully there aren't many people like him.

Yes but he did want to kill as many as possible didn't he? Ok maybe some want to create a distraction but my point is terrorists want to kill as many as possible.

Yeah I realised Paul sounded wrong. Managed to edit it out in time though.

Not necessarily. There are tons of bomb threats from people who don't want to kill anyone but make an impact. Can't sweep literally every bombmaker into the same category - otherwise on 7/7, why bomb a single train carriage rather than exploding in the middle of Waterloo?

He wanted to kill as many members of the Workers' Youth League as possible. Some people just have specific targets.

    Or your international ne'er-do-wells.

But this sounds like 2-3 pipebombs, which probably isn't going to end up being the handiwork of any great terrorist organization. Worth noting that today is Patriot's Day, the anniversary of the Battles of Lexington/Concord which kicked off the revolution, and thus a particular favourite of the sovereign citizen whackjobs.

Well Massachusetts do not have the death penalty in place but that may not save the person or people responsible as it will probably be a federal government matter should anyone be brought to trial.

Have I really just seen someone saying this is karma for the Boston collections for the IRA in the past?

Not sure how to respond to the comment...

More likely, they'd go for a guilty plea and life imprisonment. The death toll with McVeigh was such that they sought the death penalty, but their preference -- assuming whoever did this is connected to any organized group -- is to lock them up in a Supermax rather than turning them into a mythical figure. That was the case with Eric Rudolph, who carried out the Olympic Park bombing in '96.

2 dead, 22 injured police are saying. That could been a LOT worse. Of course, the death toll may rise but I really hope not.
