Yes I did as instructed and the videos do come up and just click on the link that says 9 vidoes and the whole lot come up including the Chelsea match. Try as I might I stopped and started the film when it was a shot from the goal mouth at the North Stand end, just to see if I could spot myself but the picture was blurred when stopped so even though I knew where I was stood that night I couldn't pick myself out in the crowd.

I came across this whilst moving, which I though I would put up for the older ones, which might bring back happy memories.

Nice one John I would have thought that by now maybe of value but it seems only sentimental value as there are some for sale on E-Bay from 99p

My husband says that someone listed in this programme did not play at Stamford Bridge but did play in the replay. Any idea? He went to this one but didn't make the Hull game.

I have to say I do not remember whether that was the case, though I have a feeling it might have been Simpkin. See match report below, which mentions some players. I am quite sure , Swann, Davidson, D. Butler, Milner, Jarvis Houghton, Waggy, I. Butler, Chilton all played, so I think it comes down to Simpkin or Henderson. I hope this helps.

According to a match report I have seen the starting line up was as follows. So Osgood didn't play but Boyle did.

    Peter Bonetti
    Defender Ron Harris
    Full back Joe Kirkup
    Full back Eddie McCreadie
    Centre half Marvin Hinton
    Midfielder Johnny Boyle
    Midfielder Terry Venables
    Midfielder John Hollins
    Forward Barry Bridges
    Forward Bobby Tambling
    Forward/Midfielder George Graham

Just browsing and recalled a couple nice memories for me.Roundabout 64 season I went to see City train at the Circle ironically and was about to walk back home when Cliff Britton noticed me and gave me a lift in his Rover. He was a true gentleman asked me about school and how long ihad supported City. Later when I had a paperround down Boothferry road I used to see him in his Rover driving home.He used to wave if stuck in traffic.I always had my City bobble hat on.,
Then in 1965 League of England [played Ireland at BP,. City played England at SpringheadLane for 60 minutes and won2-1.Cycled back to the ground for autographs and Alf Ramsey asked me if I had enjoyed the game. Happy days

I started watching City in1946 and I am as enthusiastic today as I was then, now as then I couldn't afford to go to every match and there wasn't any broadcasting from the game. How things have changed.
Boothferry park was home, the only covered stand was on the west side(Best stand) gates were around 25 to 30500 regularly and City were in division 3 north.
Entrance fee for me was 2&1/2p, 25p was max then, half a weeks wages it would have been for me as I got 55p per week as an apprentice.Entrance was free after half time, thats how I saw a lot of games.
A footballers wage was £12-50 per week ( average wage around £5 p/w)
International £20 per game, Hull City did not have an international player.
The team formation was 2, 3, 5. ( just the reverse to what it is today)and it didn't change until the 1960s when Hungary beat England 6-2 (I think)
I walked to the match from Londesboro' St, Anlaby road was packed with people walking to the ground also, its packed with cars now
Major Buckley was the Manager and Jack Taylor was the fulback and Captain.
One thing that hasn't changed, we seemed to win our matches against the good teams and lose against the bottom clubs.
The next three games are against the btm clubs so beware!

    Hiya Charles.
Do you know why Hull City competed in Football League (North) in the 1944/45 season and then didn't compete in 45/46 before re-joining Division Three (North) in 46/47.
Was it the devastation after the war or didn't the population have any desire for football at such sad time?

    Hi Craig,
I don't really know the answer fully, but most football was suspended for the war period only friendlies were played and a lot of professional football players were still in the forces so clubs didn't get their registered players back. They played the games with players who were available at the time some were still in the forces but stationed near those clubs. I can only assume that football competions did not start in ernest until the 1946 season. Apart from that Hull city did not have a ground until Boothferry park was finished and the mounds at three sides was built up from bomb damage and demolished air raid shelters. My Dad took me to see Hull city before the war at the Circle which is where KC stands now and during and after the war we used the football ground and pitch as an unofficial play area, the stands weren't there, perhaps they had been bombed.
Maybe Dutch Mountain Dog can answer the question in more official detail. I was only 14 then (I'm not saying he was older than mebut he seems to have info at his hand) with football only entering my thoughts on a Saturday afternoon, we had to work Saturday mornings an too tired the rest of the week.

great pic. I went to the game and I am sure I saw video highlights when back in Hull (would love to see them again!).
I was at the other end, were the alleged hand ball took place and tbh did not think it was a penalty.
But in the last minutes at 2-2 I do remember Jarvis blasting what looked like a good chance over the bar.
but memories ain't what they used to be ...

From my husband. " Official records for Hull City that I know of show that from the outbreak of war in 1939 all Football League fixtures were suspended until competition resumed in the season 1946/47.( 2 matches only were played at the commencement of the season 39/40).

Hull City did compete in the FA cup which was played for in the 1945/46 season(last played for in 1939) but if they played at home I did not attend. Think I recall Charles saying he did though so my guess would be it was at the Boulevard or Anlaby Road.My first match was the first League match of the 46/47 season.

Memo to Charles: Hungary beat England 6-3 at Wembley in 1953. I was one of the 105,000 there to see the rout. Did not go to the return match in Hungary the following year when Hungary won 7-0! As you rightly state it was the beginning of the end for the 2-3-5 formation."

Going by my Hull City bible (A Century of City - Mike Peterson) the Tigers did play quit a few league and cup matches during the war. The leagues were regionalised and no doubt under the circumstances teams wouldn't have had fixed squads. The cup which I presume took the place of the FA Cup was called The War Cup and again played on a regional basis (I would imagine the winners of each region eventually met to decide the overall winner).
    So as Mr BMB said in 1939/40 City played;
2 Division 3 (North) matches before it was abandonded, then 20 North East Regional League and 5 Football League War Cup matches. - JR Prescott top scorer

    In 1940/41:
23 North Regional League matches and 4 Football League War Cup matches. H Knott top scorer

    City didn't compete in seasons 41/42, 42/43 and 43/44

In 1944/45 The league was split into two competitions, the first ending on the 23rd December. The War Cup matches doubled as results for the second competition which started on Christmas day:
So Football League (North); 1st Championship 18 matches (G Glaister top scorer), FL (North) War Cup (qualifying) 10 matches, FL (North) 2nd Championship 8 matches (+ cup matches) top scorer E Bell

City didn't compete in 1945/46 and as Mr BMB says we had a full Division 3 (North) and FA Cup season in 1946/47 - top scorer B Lester
