I'm a card-carrying pessimist, Bajan, but I still have real hope...

we'll lose a CL spot in the last second of a ridiculously extended extra time against Chelsea on a ball that didn't get within three feet of crossing the line, after having a perfectly good goal or five disallowed.

Interesting how City play Wigan their FA Cup final opponents midweek straight after they have both played to reach the final this week. I was totally stumped as to who was going to win today. Anyway as to next Sunday, three weeks ago we were playing well and City not so well having been beaten by Saints. We lose to Pool and a collapse of sorts comes. Had we still been playing the way we were when we thrashed Inter 3-0 I'd have put us down for an easy win but now I'm not so sure. At least we'll have had a good rest.

Fancy City to win purely on the basis they don't lose (generally speaking) away to top sides and Spurs generally don't beat top sides at home, they haven't played many games recently and I think they'll want to end the season strong and narrow the gap.

If Bale and Lennon play it would have been easier for them to exploit the space in behind but City's formation seems better suited to playing away from home.

Hopefully Bale & Lennon will be fit for the game. City looked very dangerous yesterday - but also vulnerable at the back as Kompany can't do it all.

Another factor is that they have already had one game ( a cup semi final) they also have to play Weds night too. So, we should be the fresher of the two sides, come Sunday

+ as of wednesday, united could well have picked up another 3 points and all but sealed the league title. That' gotta affect them mentally and perhaps get their minds on the FA cup and the FA cup only.

As for Defoe and Adebayor finding the net I think that's a forlorn hope. I don't know if Ade can play against City can he,somebody remind me? We beat Arsenal 2-1 at home and we don't beat top sides at home you say. We had a very good record against City until the last couple of years so an on form Spurs at home can do it again imo. But I agree we need Bale and Lennon. Why all the gloom about playing Chelsea?

  9. Ade is not a loan player so of course will be able - if picked - to play against City. And he has looked better in the last couple of PL fixtures....
I am certainly not confident, especially after seeing Citeh put in an impressive performance yesterday, but will look for glimmers of hope wherever I can: so the return of Bale and Lennon, together with any tiredness and/or loss of PL focus by our opponents is music to my ears!!!

They put on a good performance against a Chelsea side which leaked three goals against Rubin so the good performance was deceptively enhanced against a not very good Chelsea defence. Somebody posted that City must be licking their lips for yesterday's clash against Chelsea's defence and he was right. Somebody also posted that Chelsea players are not very good running back after losing the ball in attack which is a perfect observation. Chelsea are blowing hot and cold and could lose to Basel in the EL leaving them with only top four which isn't guaranteed either.

I couldn't remember if Ade was on loan or not, thanks.

Poorly thought out, the only "top side" we've lost to at home is you so we've beaten more and drawn more so you can pick one of those outcomes if you're basing it on that.

I personally think we tend to suit being having the underdog tag. It's a more positive pressure going out onto the pitch with something to prove rather than something you don't want to lose and now we're not trying to hold onto our place in the top 4 anymore as we don't have it and if Arsenal were to win the 2 matches they have before we kick off there won't be any nerves.

That said I expect we'll get Webb or Dowd for this one inwhich case playing well will have little to do with the outcome.

Maybe on the bench. I still can't see it though, we usually have 2 defenders on the bench and I'd imagine an out of practice Kaboul would be behind Gallas, Caulker and Naughton/Benny for those 2 bench spots. We seem to favour bringing players back from longterm injuries slowly and he's not even completed 90 for the U21s yet.

No action to be taken against Aguero, apparently.
Damn, that would have been some luck. O yeah, we don't get any of that, do we?

What's better for us longer term,to beat under or full strength teams? I say the latter. When we play a full strength opposition we get a better assessment of our form regardless of the result. If we lose then we are clearly not good enough,if we draw we match them and if we win then we are on better form than the full strength top team, any of the three results tells us a lot about ourselves. To lose to an under strength Man City tells us that we are crap.

But to beat an under strength city side means we might finish top 4...

It's too late to be trying to workout whether we're good enough or worthy enough. I couldn't care less as long as we get the points! <laugh>

It's not too late at all. To beat full strength teams and reach top 4 means we'll stand a better chance of going farther in the CL whereas scraping through means what? We'll struggle. Man City qualified by beating us with an own goal and look how far they went in the CL. Their form in the PL was an indication as to how they'd perform in the CL and so it would be for us.

why would we struggle? Ok, it's extremely unlikely we'll win it, but last time we qualified with a much much weaker team than we have now. We then signed Rafa and a couple of others, and made it all the way to the QTR finals in our first outing.
Yet city won the league last season, and got completely embarrassed in the CL.
It's a different competition all together where anything can happen.
