I'm pretty sure that before the season started any Watford fan would have killed to be in the position we're in now. It's really nerve wracking of course but I intend to just sit back and enjoy the ride. By any standard we've had an exceptional season and should be really proud of what GFZ and the boys have achieved so far.
Too right Dan. Losing in the play offs would be gutting for a while - but we would all have taken that ride at the start of the season as you say. If we do fail to go up think of the fun of next year where we don't spend the first dozen matches finding out who we are - 100 points - nooooo trouble
Not too sure of the purpose of these polls. The discussion is fine, though of course totally inconclusive- unless anyone has a crystal ball. We will be wherever we get to on May 4th, and no amount of optimism or pessimism on our parts will change that. Why don't we just wait and see? I think we all know where we'd want to be. Or do we? Now a poll on where we'd prefer to be might make more sense- in other words, reflection on whether we'd be ready to go up, how good for the club promotion would be in the longer term, how damaging failure in the play-offs might be (as has already been touched on) and so on. I'm not trying to be a killjoy, just wondering...
Too late now, I shall cry for the rest of the afternoon............I just love these meaningless polls.
Aha- so you do at least agree that they are meaningless? For the record, I'm up for automatic promotion, stay in the Prem years, top six and Europe regularly.
I love creating meaningless polls Actually GG what i do find interesting is that if you have a poll conducted at a series of intervals it measures the changing optimism / pessimism of fans - we have had 3 on this roughly now and overall it shows what an optimistic bunch we are - although as you suggest maybe it also reflects what we would like to happen - as in my case partially - we went from hoping to make the play offs to being very confident of at least automatic promotion to now a 50 - 50 ish split between auto and play off. As you so - there is no merit in it unless like me you like figures and statisitcs - and the debates that go with them
The debate and speculation is great- would be better if we were all sitting round a table in a pub with a few beers, but never mind! It is interesting to measure how optimism and expectation changes. I suspect at the beginning of the season we would have been settling for mid-table obscurity, no alarms and no surprises!
I think the premiership would suit our team more than the championship, with the style of football we play I would love to see us emulate what Swansea have done. I think if we go up we won't go straight back down, as long as we get some more quality defenders and midfielders in (think we are fine up front). Players such as Vydra, FF, Abdi and Battocchio will thrive in the Prem.
Agree with you there Bucks - I think the Pozzos will do what is necessary to keep us up if we were to make it - and agree with you GG - a great pub time would be had by all
Of the current top three, we are probably the least likely to go up (we of course still have an excellent chance), but the most likely to stay up.
I think we can settle this right now actually - anyone got this guy's phone number? http://www.scotsman.com/news/odd/iranian-claims-to-have-invented-time-machine-1-2891323
