First off let's start with the useless pub quiz fact - AFC Bournemouth is actually called Bournemouth & Boscombe Athletic Football Club but runs under the trading name of AFC Bournemouth! Secondly the Cherries are possibly named so because Dean Court was built adjacent to the Cooper-Dean estate, which encompassed numerous cherry orchards. We have a tough game ahead with Bournemouth riding high in an automatic slot and will be fighting for securing that promotion position. They also have League 1 player of the season Matt Ritchie helping them with their promotion battle. Midfielder Joe Partington is out for the rest of the season. Shrewsbury have a wide range of injuries mainly defensive and there have been rumours this week of injuries to both key forwards. Mark Wright looks to be injured again! Grandison might see some game time. This is going to be a real test for our squad and it a draw would be a good result. Looking at the goals scored/conceded table Bournemouth obviously have their weaknesses and hopefully we can utilise the opportunities in the first half and late on in the match!!! The home crowd will need to be in best signing voices to help spur our team on. Come on you blues, floreat Salopia and breath on 'em Salop. Now let's go down the Oteley road to see the Shrewsbury ace's.
Hi, no reason for posting, just wanted to say how nice it is to see a thriving lower division board on this site. Good luck you Shrews!
Sorry to barge into your thread............. You are our last game of the season -after our incredibly good news today expect a real party atmosphere. 1550 tickets were sold out in a couple of days, even before todays news. Won't see you next season (we're in for the drop) but hopefully the season after..... back in league 1 of course, unless you carry on heading up
Yep good news for your club, let's hope it is the end of all of your dramas and nightmare owners. I'm surprised the club won't release more tickets as there are probably another 200 if they don't use the netting in the seats. Guess police advice might have had a hand in it.
good news and bad news. good news how nice to hear from 2 other clubs, excellent threads and well done again matster for another good one. bad news -as donny and swindon lost on tuesday i believe afc b. will be really up for it on saturday. in the balmy heat of 12 degrees i fully expect the following result. and we have uncertanties up front, story of towns season i suppose. the pride of shropshire 1 end of the pier show 3 att 5445 hurst. if town lose and i think they will this puts extra pressure on the lads in the remaining fixtures against the flotsam and mostly jetsom of the league. and i do not expect hms pinafore from pompey to berth too long in league 2. like a cork i expect them to bob up with gas, exeter and bradford if not already promoted. i recall tipping bradford for prom0 last august, and what a great season they have had. stop press, expect an announcement next week about towns new kit and er badge. finally expect bristol city up here next season, so lock up any stray bottles of cider. i suspect they may be passing through to a lower league alongside their near neighbours. floreat salopia, breath on em shrews!
I'd expect the line-up to be unchanged. Turner's unlikely to rush Jermaine back (although I could see him starting in place of Hurst) and the centre backs have done pretty well from what I've seen.
I was going to go for a draw but my heart overruled my head... Shrewsbury 2 v 1 Bournemouth Richards eaves Att 6100 Come on you blues eat cherry pie for lunch
Where do we start? Best part of today was barmaid at the pub and a good pint of Three Tuns! Thanks to Mr.Weale for the save that saved more embarrassment! Must be player of season. Let's have a list.... Eaves has lost his great first touch, pity, sure he will get it back. Morgan is a waste of space, has he turned a defender yet this season?.....and he can't 'win' free headers......how many goals has he scored....or made? Liked the look of Asante but think he needs more minutes on the pitch. Even he didn't chase lost balls in the last five minutes! We are not a team! We don't have a captain who gees the team up when losing (we let a good one go didn't we?????). Poor Richards, so much better when near the middle BUT his touch is so bad now (don't say he's out of position....that's bad management....that gripe come later!!). He berated Jacobson today when clearly it was his own fault. We need to spend money on a few good players. It's there for sure, so guess the excuse is that the right players aren't available. We need less loanees (good ones are ok, bad ones to fill a space are useless). Poor Graham T......it worked well for one season at Hereford, then it ruined them...it's not 'the only game in town' in Div 1. To follow this, we need a 'productive' youth policy. The guy who warms up the goalies (forgotten his name) looks like he can cross the ball and hit a hard shot.....maybe he could have a game!!!!!! Poor Grandison, clearly rusty, why not start with strongest or stable team from last week THEN bring him on for the last X minutes (30>X>10) if game is going well. Taylor has Wright's old disease......lacking confidence BUT at least he did some simple stuff well. Substitutions seemed quirky, as usual, some really bad players still on at 90 mins. Why when we have lost 6 points to all the top teams, AND we publicize it, do we play such a gutless game and at home too. We might just as well set our stall out for a 0-0 with a bit of fight......no spirit today at all. No midfield today, so no comments, can't remember any good bits. Hurst had a few ideas but his weight of ball was bad. Remember my post about heading.....well it was even worse today! .....and to top it all two of the three officials were baaaaaad! Gripe over, it's the worst I've felt after a match in ages and I've seen more away matches this year. Was going to get season ticket next year but will wait to see what happens. Maybe better to invest in Otter Ale and The Brunswick's own ale. Black Sabbath. Today's performance was like cold Fosters.....p**s. PS: We all hate Lee Hughes, we aren't too keen on Vale either but he's galvanised them. Rodgers was the best we could do?
Summed up very well there Metashrew. I have been saying for a while amongst my fellow match attendees that Morgan is not deserving of a place, and I get plenty of argument back about this and that with him starting. TINNEDHATS you are perhaps right about him!! Admittedly it might well be the service that is provided to the forwards that is truly the problem at the heart of all of this and that would tie in neatly with the other things you have said. Morgan has pointed out in the past that he prefers the ball to his feet, do any tactics used today or even this season offer that? the team do attempt passing but it seems to last for a brief period before the Hoofball sets in. Why does Hoofball set in? because the midfield do not provide sufficient support either for the defence or attack. Perhaps if this was solved then Morgan (and others) might have scored more this season. Midfield - we seem to have a surplus of CM players and this alongside injury/other mystical reasons has placed Richards on the LW where his is out on a limb and not as effective as he can be. Why is Parry not being played? Perhaps taking the captaincy off of Richards might help matters slightly as a starter. Taylor looks unfit and I assume an admission of underlying strains/etc will surface later on this month as an admission. Summerfield looked good but McGinn look poor. These two should be acting as a defensive block and a line of attack to support the strikers. Summerfield had a pop or two at goal but McGinn just passed sideways or backwards. I put up a post in the summer contracts thread a while ago about whether we should sign any of the loanees and todays match does cast some doubt on how effective they are. The defence was at sorts, due partly to a rusty looking Grandison who should perhaps have had 15 minutes at the end of the match replacing Goldson or Hurst. Goldson did little wrong when he cam on. Btw was it the Belle Vue Tavern where you had the Three Tuns?
No, The Red Barn of all places! And it was in great condition! Visit included trip to cemetery .....saw more life there than on Otley Road!
I am putting this down to a blip. Having seen the majority of our recent matches both home and away, this was against more significant opposition. We lost the previous game to Yeovil where chances were spurned and a biased ref gave them a distinctly dubious penalty. The 4 games prior to this we were unbeaten. Comments about today. My main gripe with Turner this season has been his constant chopping and changing of the defence. Goldson and Mambo had coped well in previous games, so no need to change today. Clearly the gamble (which it was) with Grandison's fitness never paid off and, if he was going to be played, better on the right instead of Hurst who has had 2 halves now with twisted blood. Summerfield's substitution was strange and McAllister is now proving to be not worth the money (whatever it was). Taylor should have been withdrawn if the substitution were to be made and Summerfield moved to the right where he has been effective on previous occasions. It was a toss up between Eaves and Morgan as to who was replaced. Eaves first touch has hardly ever been good but neither had anything but crumbs to feed off. Asante had one decent run but failed to look up to see Eaves with a clear path to goal. Bournemouth pressured us all over the field today which showed up our technical limitations. We were never able to do the same to them, therefore, their control and passing always looked miles superior to ours. PS We have not lost 6 points to all the top teams-check the table. PPS. Disagree about McGinn. He still looks to play the ball forward and can pick a pass better than the others.
The six point comment was Turner's on Friday.....just believed him! However when playing better teams one still expects spirit.
I thought about that on the way home and realised that we had drawn both games against Brentford. Another foul up by the management.
