Paolo Di Canio has revealed that his daughters have suffered abuse because of the fascist row that dominated his appointment as Sunderlandâs new head coach. The Italian also described club owner Ellis Short and chief executive Margaret Byrne as his âbodyguardsâ within the âhostile environmentâ he has faced since he succeeded Martin OâNeill. âI will thank them for the rest of my life because what we had was not a normal change of management,â Di Canio said. âThe first few days were absolute madness for this club.â That madness will be ratcheted up on Sunday with the Tyne-Wear derby at St Jamesâs Park although Di Canio claimed he has received messages of support from other managers, including Newcastle United's Alan Pardew. The 44-year-old said that his eldest daughter, Ludovica, who is a student, and his younger daughter, Lucrezia, who is still at school, had been targeted because of his *apparent political beliefs. âI was sad for the club, and obviously for my family, especially for my daughters,â Di Canio said. âThe oldest one goes to Southampton University and people were knocking on her door. I donât know how they found out where she lived. âMy little one, who is 15, goes to a British school in Rome, in the school someone... [said something to her]. It is for them that I feel sad. I couldnât understand how it caused a problem for them.â The row has led to Northumbria Police warning Newcastle fans not to taunt Di Canio with fascist salutes. Di Canio praised the support he has received from the Sunderland board and, in particular Short and Byrne. âI am in good hands. They are my bodyguards,â he said. âWhat I found here is unique. They were amazing. It was crucial for me working in a hostile environment. But they were straight. They said: âWe know who we know and we know Paolo Di Canio also and we will defend him.ââ Di Canioâs target is to remain in the Premier League and he agreed that Sunderland need three wins from their final six matches. If Sunderland were to win today then Pardew acknowledged that it would drag Newcastle â currently five points better off than their rivals â back into the relegation battle. âIf we lose to Sunderland, we could still go down,â the Newcastle manager said.

I wonder if any of them plan to offer their support for PDC's family and his young daughters. What do you think they make of polite British society now eh? He hasn't worked a day in friggin life but has conned his time impersonating a musician for 30 years and trying to sound like a street dude. He's just a disingenuous fake. He has written one decent tune in his whole life but it took anothers talented voice to make it actually sound good; he simply can't sing and his other songs are utter tuneless garbage.
