We've been talking for a while about taking this down to the last day, and I still hope that we do take it to the last day. But if we were to fall short, in some ways it would be better for Hull to just about clinch it on Tuesday, giving us three games to rest certain players completely (Vydra, Pudil, Anya and Chalobah in particular, with several others being rotated), and give certain other players match time should they be required (Geijo, Yeates, Murray, Bia and Thompson are the ones who might be needed but haven't played much lately).
Well done Posh and well deserved according to our commentary team , allegedly we didnt start playing until 3 down and a man light! ref should have sent off Ekstrand for two yellows and bottled it ,should have given us 2 pens and bottled those ! amazed he sent of cassetti although it was the correct decision one of those days
Just seen it on goals express...very, very debatable for me, but yes we could have been down to 10 in first half. When, oh when are going to get a decent ref. the lack of decisions that Troy has been getting recently (or not getting) is making me suspicious. Has he got a reputation, and if so, from where?
Ekstrand pulled the man back for his second offence but I don't think it was a yellow (the first one was a blatant yellow). Needed to go off at H-T though for fear of a red. Thought Cassetti's red was just a coming together of two players-interesting to see it later if the FLS shows it...
I thought the sending off was an unfunny joke, Gayle was weak all game and went down under the slightest of contact. He was already going down when the contact was made. The 'foul' by Ekstrand wasnt one, Gayle grabbed Ekstrands arm and hauled him back so as Joel tried to get away Gayle flung himself to the ground.
Believe me, if any club can balls-it-up its Hull City. Wolves away, not easy, Bristol at home 3 pts, Barnsley away 3 pts, Cardiff at home 3pts...Errrr...on second thoughts!!! Lets party
I agree. He was clean through but I think he bottled it and decided to throw himself to the ground after Cassetti caught up with him. I'd also like to see the Deeney 'penalty'. And is anyone else worried that we were so easily undone with long balls over the top?
I think the fact that the Posh fans, the sky pundits, the local news group and the Posh manager all said we should have had at least 1 penalty says all we need to know about the twat in black.
Always thought we would struggle today. Don't go for all that 'best away record vs worst home record' rubbish (just look at Bristol City and Barnsley games for examples of where this does not run true) Just a few quick points 1. Is it just me or do we always seem to have a bad ref? I cant remember the last time I said - 'phew, lucky that ref didn't give them a pen there', or 'that was never a pen - cant believe he gave us that'. On the other hand I could quite easily recount at least 10 clear pens we have been denied this season. Now don't get me wrong - by all accounts Peterborough gave everything and deserved to win. However, I also thought the Cassetti sending off was extremely soft. Cassetti essentially caught up Gayle who knew he was about to get tackled so stopped running and fell over. Having said that there is no way he can appeal it as Gayle has just been too smart for him (wont have said that about Cassetti too many times this season. 2. Millwall are there for the taking on Tues. Lets pick up 3 points and hope Wolves do the same in a game they must win.....theres still a chance (hmmmn, maybe not but you can live in hope). 3. Interesting that 4 of the favourites for POTY had some of their most average performances today - Cassetti, Abdi, Vydra and Deeney. Reckon Geijo may get a chance on Tues night. 4. Who are we going to play at the back with Cassetti suspended - If Briggs is still out we are prob looking at Pudil, Doyley, Ekstrand, Thompson and Anya. Not ideal...
For me the reason of failure yesterday was not to be hidden behind the penalties that we were denied. We were second best for most of that match and i for one listening all be it on the radio could not believe the change in tatics at half time against a team that was catching us on the break through out the first half. May be with ten/fifteen minutes to go in a game we couldn't afford to lose yes but half time for me it was suicidal. Now i am not slating GFZ just saying it was a very bad call that cost us the match. He needed to change something yes based on first half but.... Had we some how got back in to the game and with Ipswich at one stage pulling leval we would i feel have been in a very strong postion for last five games. As for sending off no complaints with it Cassetti fell for it and we were it seems very fortunate to make half time with eleven players still on pitch as John Marks and Nick Wright both thought Ekstrand was lucky not to recieve second yellow. Well with Bruce getting his tactics wrong against us according to Hull fans may be pressure is beginning to tell, however if we are honest based on our recent form over past few weeks it looks as if draws will suffice for Hull now. Gfz may as well go all out on Tuesday and tune team in effort to kick start us as we would have to rely on lady luck at present to make headway in the play offs. Nothing is impossible but something needs to change pretty quick for us to end what has been such a fantastic season on a high
We were beaten by a team that wanted to win more than we did, we were just not up for it and if we continue playing like that we will not get far in the play-off's. In particular Chalobah was very poor, he made far too many unforced errors and his choice of the pass was woeful. I am not placing all the blame on him as several others were just on their game either, but he was particularly awful yesterday. Good turn out by Watford supporters and a great atmosphere in the various watering holes we went it, shame it could not be rewarded. We will miss Cassetti big time..
You were beaten by a team that has only lost four of their last twenty one games, a stat that is better than your own record over the same games, if we hadn't had such an horrific start to the season that included losing all of our first seven games, then we would be currently challenging yourselves for the play-offs. Being still in the bottom section of the table gives a false guide and leads to over confidence amongst rival supporters, hence the times I have read "we should be beating teams like Posh". Hull, Cardiff, Leicester and yourselves have all fallen to us whilset being in the top three positions, a surprise to you, but not to us. good luck in the Play-Offs.
I think you'll find that, in spite of those seven early defeats, our records at the end of October were similar -ours marginally better - and we were in the relegation zone too, so I'm not too sure how that accounts for the fact that you aren't challenging for promotion. And, I'll stand corrected, but I don't remember anyone on here saying that 'we should be beating teams like Posh' - a few, myself included, have been overly bold in predicting that we would beat you, but plenty of others have expressed nothing but doubt about the result. Thanks for the play-off good wishes - I doubt they will work though. Our current form and our injury list suggest that we will do well to struggle.
!...didn't say that it (beating teams like Posh) was mentioned on here 2... over the last twenty one games we would be in sixth posistion four points clear. 3...you didn't have the ground to make up on the other teams that we had.
I for one never said this, I actually said to several of your fans that it was going to be tough. That you werent 8 (now 9) unbeaten for no reason and its not for nothing that you took 6 points from Cardiff. Plus I think the table is unkind to you based on recent form. Most of us Watford fans are nice people and know our limitations and would never dream of underestimating any teams. We have been the victim of defeats at the hands of teams we might not expect to beat us based on the table.
We knew it would be a tough game and I said that i hoped that your good record would inspire us to play at our best - but that did not happen
