Same here I may not know many people who were affected first hand, but I know a hell of a lot of people that have been affected due to what Thatcher did to their families.

I do find the endless references to MLT being fat quite humorous at times, but I know what you mean. Matty started to get fatter round about the 25-26 age mark. If you watch footage of him before that, and there's plenty, it shows he's quite the lean, young male, who also strangely, runs around a fair bit. Of course, it's almost a bloody crime that he let himself become rather lardy, later on, as it undoubtedly shortened his career, but that was Matty for you. The flawed genius. Some players can't do it even when they're super-fit. Matty could do more than most when even a stone overweight.

Yep he wasn't really that fat tbh, but watching him on Soccer Saturday he was never that thin in his playing career.

When he was 18 to 22ish he was positively thin..! In fact, you compare him to Shearer [on the pitch at the same time] and Matty's the skinny, lanky one. I'm kidding, but he's every bit the thin footballer.

    Southampton v Liverpool 1989-90. Enjoy.

Apparently Pompey and Millwall fans have had a fight at Waterloo Station and it's been closed.

Anyways into the stadium I go.

    They wouldn't close Waterloo, surely.

As opposed to a great one, you mean..?

Great goal he scored against ManU. Hawk-Eye would have beeped its approval. The ref didn't see it. Thatcher nearly wrecked his career. See how topical I can be..? :)

They could close off areas of it perhaps. Shutting down the whole thing would be shutting down connections to many parts of the country, inconveniencing a ton of commuters and affecting productivity of many businesses. There'd have to be a serious threat to the safety of the public before they'd close Waterloo.

Oh, you want to talk about a great player? So you want to talk about David James then?

No. If I want to watch Calamity, I'd rather look at Doris Day. :)

QPR may not have been able to pull off a great escape, but looks like Deportivo la Coruna might manage it. They've won their last three games to take them up to 28 points, and a win at Levante this evening could take them out of the bottom three. There's a lot of talk about whether they'll cease to exist if they go down this season. Everything is at stake.

Juan Carlos Valeron and Manuel Pablo were in the team then and still are now! Bloody ancient though.

Jesus, really? The only player I can remember from back then was Jose Molina in goal. A quick bit of research suggests he made his Spain debut as a winger...interesting.

Wat. Pretty sure Molina's always been a keeper. They guy they had before him, Jacques Songo'o, was great as well. They won the league with him. Also there was Roy Makaay and Diego Tristan up front, Fran and Djalminha in midfield. Rivaldo was there for a bit too.
