Wondered why I got a text from Wembley offering me a tackit Thought about it and realised I just couldn't be a***d
and why not? We sold 21000. When I heard that we had got 31000 to shift for a semi final against a team that we'll be expected to beat (who also have a reputation for being "old fashioned") I thought we might do 12 or 13000, so I'm chuffed to bits. If we get to the final we'll sell out our allocation, no problem. Even my best mate who I go to the football with decided he couldn't afford both, so he'd risk it we got to the final. Anyway, I'm no wum, just speaking the truth. What is it with fans of other relatively small clubs who are fixated with the size of our support? Are they jealous that we have the nous to spend money wisely, get good performances out of not very high profile players, play football the right way (sometimes) and in spite of our fanbase have managed to spend eight years in the Premier League while last year, turning an operating profit? Youse lot should show some respect. We're everything you aspire to be! Semi-final of an FA Cup and still in with a shout of staying in the league for the ninth year, and we bought our best players from Scotland, Paraguay, Honduras and Chile! Couple of good bloggers out there - http://grumpyoldfan.net/fa-cup-semi-final-the-road-to-wigan-pier-is-closed-until-sunday/ http://www.standamf.com/2013/04/11/in-defence-of-wigan-athletic/ Don't succumb to the plastic values of the skyfan game lads. If we can produce a team worthy of the PL with our resources, without doing a Leeds or a Pompey, there's hope for us all. We're ****ing Cinderella!
HP sauce...our problem was that you bought so few fans last Sunday....to a ^ point match. At 93 minutes when we were 1 up , you could not breathe for the noise....You score, obviously we went deathly quite and you barely made enough noise to scare the pigeons, It is sad how little away support you muster
Its the away end that doesnt sell out, 16,600 for Wigan was a home sell out. Wigan had the top tier and only bought 400 leaving 1500 empty seats that cant be used by home fans. Anyway, we are talking about away support and ours is great and Fulhams and Wigans are a joke, as is Wigans home support too.
Don't see the issue. It's a sign of the times that the FA Cup is meaningless, just look at the Blackburn/Millwall attendance that was less than 9,000. It's a trip out that involves a long journey, it's massively overpriced, it's a round too early to be playing at Wembley, it's against lower league opposition, and frankly Wigan have got more important things to worry about so could easily be playing a weakened team.
Semis should never be at Wembley, though no idea where they ought to be this time unless you have both at Villa Park. Don't have anything against Wigan myself. They're Rochdale living the dream and sooner or later will be at that level again, as will we.
