Hi all, Started putting together an "All time Swans XI" - pretty subjective but good for a laugh. First two in were Roger Freestone and Leon Britton; Leon; http://www.theswanseaway.co.uk/2013/04/all-time-swansea-xi-central-midfield.html Roger; http://www.theswanseaway.co.uk/2013/04/all-time-swansea-xi-goalkeeper-roger.html Any feedback/suggestions for further players etc welcomed.
A similar thread appeared a few months ago,and I was torn between Tony Millington, and Jimmy Rimmer. In my "all time team" they would play 45 minutes each.
I think Latchford may well make the cut. With no game on the weekend I should be able to get quite a few of these done.
latchford and trundle in their prime. michu, leighton james, routledge and leon midfield,. smith, monk(capt) chico and davies as defenders and tremmel in goal.......all players must be at the top of their game....
Leon for sure. Rajkovik and Jimmy too. Leighton james (left back...?) Ivor Allchurch of course. Goalie could be Roger, Vorm, Rimmer? Trundle for his almost single-handed dragging our club off its knees. Curtis for sure. Robbie too. Legends - RESPECT! Makes you realise how blessed we are.
the thing i find with the era of the leather ball is the players were not on much money and not as fit as they are today....they were the best of their day but i dont think any of the big names of that era like mathews, allchurch and the like would ever be as good as todays average players let alone the best players of today......dont get me wrong they were the super stars of the day but the game they played was slower and not as skillful and i could not see any of them players being good enough to get into a top premiership side today....
virtually impossible to pick players between different eras, was bradman as good as lara? was Dixie Dean as good as Van Persie, ppl can argue for years over this question.
I do think Ferrie should be given some consideration. Yes, he wasn't with us too long, but my gosh what a player...I know you are saying on your main thread that Leon could be the best player we have ever had...But Bodde could play! He could score from anywhere, and was the best passer of a ball this team has ever seen. I think he could easily have made any top team in the world. There I said it.
Bodde was a hell of a player wasn't he? I'm not saying Leon is the best player we've ever had, but he has become the embodiment of Swansea City FC. Unfancied by many, perfecting a style few others dare.
Ivor not as good as an average player of today????????? Rubbish David !!!!! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ivor_Allchurch
It is hard to compare previous players to todays. but for example anyone who watched George Best would have to admit his ball control was something else.To be able to control a ball as he did (and others) on pitches which until recently were no more than bogs was a sight to behold .If players could do that in those conditions just think what they could do at some of todays grounds .To days players are not only footballers but athletes .They were as equal as any thing to compare with today it's that they played to the conditions of that era imo. Back to Ivor , our equivalent of any other the rest of the best http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0QErI5JmYoQ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d_3zAaQOsd4
