And that's the moment the team will engineer every race in favour of Seb. Actually Mark has been v good, could have pushed Vettel wide but didn't. Next time he may not be so kind, I hope he isn't. We all agree the trouble with team orders is that it....kills half the fun. So, F1 needs to find a way to financially reward teams when team orders are not applied, when constructors championships don't dictate the team money. So, something like you get and extra 10 championship points for driving your team mate into the tyre wall and the crashing driver is fined and gets 3points on his F1 licence for driving without due care . This would stop him doing it deliberately under team orders. Surprised Bernie hasn't muted the idea already, would fit nicely with artificial rain.
I know they are paid loads so have to watch their P and Qs but wouldn't it be fun if they (the drivers) just said what they were thinking...more entertaining. Tyres and DRS have spiced it up, whatever the drivers views are on these two.

 

Decided to watch fp1 for a bit

 

Looks like Ferrari, Red Fools and Mercedes will be quickest this weekend. Ferrari were sandbagging, Alonso did a lap without DRS and it was only 1.4 slower than Rosberg. Also Alonso only got the new turning vanes towards the end of the session when he was on high fuel.

 

wow looks like a juicy weekend ahead.

Mercedes look very quick on the hards(Medium) and lotus and Ferrari better on the softs. Webber looks like a man on a mission and hitting Vettel where it hurts. (Seb looks really frustrated in that cockpit). Rosberg also looks superior to Hamilton! Mclaren though look to have made no improvement like they promised.

 

Interesting tyre comment from Hamilton. 'Never known them to behave this way'. They look awful!

 

Not sure you can draw too many conclusions just yet.

 

Got a feeling this is going to be a crap race. The field seems pretty strung out, overtaking will be too easy, there's a massive gap between the compounds and the softs are so fragile that no one will race them. I think it will be a short burst on options at the start, and then nursing two sets of primes to the end of the race, I think the result will pretty much be decided by the second stops. Pirelli have gone too far now in my opinion, Button's delamination was the second in less than three events.

 

Hembery says:
- Two stop race
- Medium tyre good for 20 laps deg contained 0.1 to 0.2 sec a lap.
- Soft graining, so higher deg but 1.5 sec faster Will be the Qualy tyre.

Benson says:
Looking through the race runs in China on Friday the Ferraris do seem quick - Massa on the soft tyre and Alonso on the medium. Vettel looks strong, much more so than on headline times. Merc/Lotus up there too. Button's revised McLaren shows encouraging pace.



It's been a while since a Ferrari has looked so good on track. Massa in particular looked glued to the circuit. I cant wait to see Massa take pole!

Mercedes went longer than anyone else on the medium tyre. On the soft tyre they look very poor compared to Ferrari who look good. Qualifying will be interesting especially Q3. One mistake on the decisive run on soft tyres and it will cost them dearly.

 

I know Lewis hasnt been well, but Rosberg seems to have the measure of him at the moment.

Interesting view on the soft tyre:

"It's extreme degradation and from a tyre that's doing a [one minute] 35 in qualifying spec and then in the race after eight laps doing [one minute] 48s, it's a big difference. We're slower than GP2 cars by about five seconds."

 

The Saubers are owning the speed traps followed by the Mercs and the Ferrari. McLaren is near the bottom with the Red Bulls almost mid pack:
