In fairness Medro always reminds me of Malvolio and Monaco is the living epitome of Sir Andrew Aguecheek so yes - some people do. <see if you can guess what i did for english O-Level >
The Government does not require all children to learn Chilnese or to play the ukulele. The government requires that all children receive an education. As a tax payer I have no problem with that.
Indeed it does - but where does it say children should be educated in a particular faith? Don't get me worng rebel, i'm not an anti religious bigot, I'm actually a practising catholicm, but i fail to see how providing schools which bring children up in a specific faith should be the duty of the government.
Like Catholic State Schools that receive Government funding and then additional funding through the church?
You're right as always Eddie - they say they don't need your kids to learn Chinese or play the ukulele and then put headmasters in prison because the annual talent show didn't have one Mao Tse Tung or George Formby tribute act. Double crossing bastards .
No... just don't see why "faith" should be taught in state funded schools. By the way, your point re Macbeth - Teaching religion v teaching english literature!
I dont see why they shoudl receive any state funding... if catholic church wants to educate children, let them pay for it... they can afford it! More than the UK goverment can! Would you agree with Muslim state schools that receive Goverment funding? Or Jewish state schools...
It isn't. It is their duty to provide schools. All schools reflect a particular ethos. When the Church (and parents) volunteer extra monies then there is some right to dictate that ethos.
It's a pointless arguement... If you have faith, you believe in the need for faith schools. If you think for yourself, you dont believe in faith scools. You'll never change their minds.
If a group of fascists decided they wanted to set up a state school which educated their children in fascism and volunteered extra monies to dictate the ethos would that be ok? Far better to integarte and just teach the basics and if you want extra then pay for it.
I don't like disagreeing with you Pud but i'm afraid you're worng there. I've argued against faith schools as vehemently as any non religous person on here.In general you're right of course but i'm just an argumentative cantankerous old bastard!
