What is the general feeling of how this will go? Will the fans chant justice for the 96 for the minute or will it be observed.Cant help no matter what is said by Madejski that he will be secretly seeing it as a silence for "HER".
So that there is no confusion at all we should chant justice for the 96 and be clear that we will do that. I fear that a minutes silence will be booed.
Does that really matter? LFC fans will know it is a silence for Hillsborough, Reading fans will know it, the entire country will know it. If Madejski wants to delude himself, I don't see that as being any reason to change what you've been doing for years now. If anything, I think changing the tradition just because one person tries to subvert it will weaken the remembrance more than any Thatcher confusion could.
I'm not so sure and think that the prospect of some booing the silence would have a worse effect, if everyone just goes for the chant then there is no confusion. The main thing is to be clear before the start will everyone chant or observe a silence as long as everyone is clear and on the same page then that should avoid any problems.
Hopefully, an unambiguous announcement will be made before the silence is observed at each ground making it clear it is in remembrance and respect for the memory of the 96 AND NOTHING ELSE
For me the silence is a personal thing, its about taking a minute to remember 96 fans from our club who should still be with us today and for me to remember one person in particular who I miss badly still to this day. I couldn't give two ****s what Madjeski thinks tbh We can chant for the rest of the year but for me the minutes silence is important.
This. Regardless of what you think of Thatcher and Madejski, I can't honestly believe that any genuine LFC fan, or football fan in general, would ever boo the Hillsborough silence.
Thats what i was getting at there has to be a definitive action otherwise if some go for the chant and some for the silence it wont look good to the outside world. We have to be seen to be united for it.
With it being a personal thing for you I can see your point, I just think that it needs to be made clear or you'll get some idiot booing thinking that it's for Thatcher, I suppose a simple announcement at the start of the silence will do but if the announcement says something about Thatcher aswell then what will the fans do? This is why I think it needs to be clear before the silence is announced on the day.
If they try and taint it on the day by bringing her into it then they'll be culpable for (potentially) starting a riot. Won't happen but even if it does I'll still observe the silence and let the club deal with Reading....after I've taken a dump on Madjeskis motor
IF there is an Official announcement at Reading linking the Hillsborough silence with Thatcher then we should honour it impeccably. At the end of the silence we should then chant JF96 followed by a rendition of Ding Dong The Witch is Dead. Easy for me as I won't be there. However, I will observe the silence for the 96.
Why you having a go at him? He's raised a genuine question and there is some debate on what will be done. The silence should be observed but there is a worry with what the Reading owner has said.
Luv... the way he put it i have expect he's wumming... only half mind. If he's EVER paid any attention in the past he'd know we have never ever done anything other than honored the silence impeccably. So no matter what their chairman has said i more expect FULLY the team to absolutely humiliate reading by a cricket score and say in the post match that they got handed what was coming. Thats the best way of dealing with the like of him.
Fair enough mate but I don't think he was wumming but just concerned. I did wonder myself what would be best as I thought that some may boo if they try some half arsed attempt to honour Thatcher.
I've purposely not read any other responses yet... IMO, if the stadium announcer say it is a minutes silence (or applause) for Hillsborough then we should oblige. However, if Thatcher's name is mentioned then 'Justice for the 96' should be chanted. This shows the respect to the 96 whilst showing discontent towards MT for her involvement in the cover up. If people wish to have a secret silence so to speak then that is up to them, we can't make people follow suit. If they have different values or beliefs then that is up to them and it is not for us to enforce an opinion onto others.
thats fine too... I notice not one other ground is purportedly going to have any minutes silence for her.
