    Saturday 13th April 2013
    3PM- The Abbey Business Stadium

This is the Match day thread, this is where you can post your team predictions, chat before the game about the match or anything else, chat during the match and post updates on the match and also chat after the game about the score and write your match report. Also if I am at the match I will write my report after the match giving my view on the players, join in the chat and have fun.

This is the day that we can seal the title for the first time in 49 years so this is such a great time. We are promoted with 3 games left and we now need 3 points from 3 games to get the title, we may not even need all them points because if Port Vale don't win all theirs then we will need less points, so this means that this is a very good time to get behind the boys and remember this time as this will probably not come around again in many of our lifetimes so lets get behind the boys and cheer them on to the title, UTG.

    Team News
Gillingham should have a near fully fit squad, will be updated when more is known about Myles Weston.
Anton Robinson has now returned to Huddersfield after he picked up a serious injury suspected to be damage to the cruciate ligaments in the knee. He could be out for up to 9 months so we will probably not look at signing him now but you never know we may look at him in January next year if he has recovered by then.

    Past meetings
    Gillingham have not met many times with Cheltenham Town, we have only played each other 11 times as they were in Non league for many years so in total we have only played them 9 times in the league, but this is our overall record against Cheltenham Town;
    Games won: 5
    Games drawn:5
    Games lost:1

So 1 defeat in 11 is very good, we will not be adding to this. Our only defeat against them was back in 2007 away at Cheltenham when we lost 1-0 at the start of the season that we got relegated under Mark Stimson but this was a game that was played when Ronnie Jepson was still at the club as manager. Since then we have played them twice away and won them both with a 1-2 win and a 0-3 win last season at The Abbey Business Stadium.
    This is our overall record;

    30 Oct 1999 Cheltenham Town v Gillingham D 1-1 FA Cup
    09 Nov 1999 Gillingham v Cheltenham Town W 3-2 FA Cup
    30 Sep 2006 Gillingham v Cheltenham Town W 2-1 League One
    20 Jan 2007 Cheltenham Town v Gillingham D 1-1 League One
    11 Aug 2007 Cheltenham Town v Gillingham L 1-0 League One
    02 Feb 2008 Gillingham v Cheltenham Town D 0-0 League One
    07 Aug 2010 Gillingham v Cheltenham Town D 1-1 League Two
    27 Mar 2011 Cheltenham Town v Gillingham W 1-2 League Two
    06 Aug 2011 Gillingham v Cheltenham Town W 1-0 League Two
    17 Mar 2012 Cheltenham Town v Gillingham W 0-3 League Two
    06 Nov 2012 Gillingham v Cheltenham Town D 0-0 League Two

With no defeat against them in the last 6 times we have played them and also with us winning 2 of our last away games against them I do believe we can win this, it will not be easy but we could do it even though I do have a feeling that it could be a draw but I am going with the heart on this and saying that we can win this match.
Cheltenham are not on the best run of form as they have only won 1 of their last 4 games but that was against Northampton who are also chasing 3rd place.
We are now 9 games unbeaten since our defeat against Oxford we may have only won 4 of the last 10 but 5 draws have made up the rest of the unbeaten run meaning that we have been able to get promotion early on.
Cheltenham are a very strong side at home having only lost 2 games all season on their own patch which means that it will not be easy just like the away game at Burton won't be however with us still having the best away record in the league I do have faith that we can win away from home again even though we have not won for a while as we have drew 5 away games in a row since we won 0-1 at Chesterfield back in February.

    Current league table
As of 10.04.13 Gillingham sit top of League two after 43 games with a total of 82 points which is a total which means that they are promoted due to only Port Vale being the only team that can catch us however we only need 3 points to seal the title as they sit 2nd in the league on 75 points after 43 games so that means with only 9 points available from the next 3 games they sit 7 points behind the Gills but the only thing on their side is that they have a better goal difference than the Gills.
Gillingham are currently on a 9 game unbeaten run in the league so if we avoid defeat again then that will mean that we have made it 10 games without defeat which would be brilliant.

Cheltenham sit 5th in League Two after 43 games with 68 points, they are just 2 points behind 3rd place Burton Albion so they are still able to finish in the top 3.

    HOADIE’S View on this match
This is not going to be easy, Cheltenham have not been playing well however I am sure their manager will get the team fired up for this match as they will not want to lose again. It would be great to win this but my head is saying that we will draw however the heart is saying that we will win. If we do draw then if Vale draw then we have the title anyway, I would not be surprised if Vale did not win as they play Rochdale who may not have had a good season but they are not an easy side to play so they will be lucky to get a win at the club.
Anyway come on you Gills the title is near and we will have it either in this game or against Wimbledon.

    The score line and scorers
I am going to say that the score will be Cheltenham 0-1 Gillingham with Danny Kedwell getting the goal for us sending us up as Champions.

I think this is what the team may look like, I think there will be a few changes but I am not sure if we will go with Burton or Kedwell or both of them as Martin Allen may want to put Danny Kedwell on the bench but he has been playing well lately so I am not sure but this is what I think it may be.

    Nelson

    Fish
    Legge
    Barrett
    Martin

    Frampton

    Whelpdale
    Lee
    Allen

    Burton
Weston (If Weston is back but if he is not back yet then it will be Birchall next to Burton)

I am thinking that Kedwell will come on in the second half for Burton.

Enjoy the game those of you who are going. I'll be working in the burger van at Wimbledon but will be keeping checking on what is happening at both Cheltenham and Rochdale hoping that Keds will be on the scoresheet again in another win. The icing on the cake would be if Rochdale beat Port Vale. Come on Gills let's do it.

Ironically if we both lose Saturday, which is a possibility, we would still be crowned Champions.

Personally I would love to see us play the counter attack game there. Imagine having Weston and Allen on the wings, birchall upfront with kedwell playing the target man and whelpdale playing as the attacking midfielder. Pure pace to break with and a defence that has been solid all season to soak the pressure as I think Cheltenham are going to come at us hard as they are going to want to really win this game

    Won't happen though

If only it was that simple. I can't really see us getting more a point but that could be good enough...

I'd rather we played our strongest 11 today and clinch the title. I know wombles will be an easier game so rest the big players for that but why risk it. Yes it would be nice to see some of the developing players come through and have a game but they'll hopefully be two games for that after securing the tittle.

I'm just worried if we don't secure it today then he plays a weakened team at home again and we start to look like we are throwing it away that people will get on the youngsters back which won't do them any good. Whereas if we secured it what happens in the pitch would almost be null and void again wombles as people really would care!

I would only put 1 or 2 in at a time, personally put in Hessenthaler and Hare. I don't think that would weaken the team if we put in one or two. Maybe even give Muggleton a chance and rest Martin as he has been in the team all season and it would be good to see what Muggleton is like.

    Team could be

    Nelson

    Fish
    Legge
    Barrett
    Muggleton

    Frampton

    Lee
    Hessenthaler
    Dack

    Burton
    Birchall

    Subs
    Forecast
    Davies
    Martin
    Allen
    Whelpdale
    Gregory
    Kedwell

Now to me the first team does not look weak at all like that, it still looks very strong and good enough to win.

8 minutes to go until the big match, 3 changes to the team with Lee, Frampton and Burton in for Dack, Gregory and Birchall.
This is the team that plays Cheltenham today.

    Nelson

    Fish
    Legge
    Barrett
    Martin

    Frampton

    Whelpdale
    Lee
    Allen

    Kedwell
    Burton

Come on you gills we can do this.

Gregory is coming on for Joe Martin. Martin tried to play on but was not able to, Frampton is now playing at left back.

Half time 0-0 with Vale 1-1 against Rochdale we stand as champions with the current scores.
