won't be hard for wigan to hold a minute's silence I'm sure the 5 fans that turn up will oblige. An Sir Bobby returned to watch games after being sacked so not sure why he would if we humiliated him like u claim we did.

Please please please let them try to hold a minute's silence for her before the game... Please! It would give ordinary people the platform to make a significant statement... and a few new expletives.

The woman had disdain for most football fans and had little interest in sport, so of course we should all join arm in arm for a moment of silence before a game in her honour, it's what she would have wanted... <doh> Seriously, why don't we just incorporate black armbands into every premier league kit to spare the clubs the bother of shelling out for the extra fabric as part of the financial fair play? People die. Every day. Billions of people makes millions of deaths.

Only the most well thought of people who have a history with the club, and those who died in wars, should have any claim to a moment of silence at our ground, as others have muted.

It's been said many times before, politics and sport don't mix.

Pretty much what I thought. It's not really about football but about Dave Whelan. Loves the sound of his own voice that man.

It will be like watching a car crash, having known from 100 metres down the road that it was going to happen....

Got to say if the club had held a minute's silence for her, I would have walked in the ground after the game started.

Remember that she tried to introduce ID cards for football fans, agreed with the banning of ALL away fans - not to mention blaming the scousers for Hillsborough!
    Why should we respect that.
She's dead - I'll not celebrate - but why go for a ****ty publicity stunt.
If they want silence, let's applaud. If they want applause, let's be silent!

    Just my opimion ACS.
I don't agree with the parties etc, but I don't see why we should be MADE to the line for a politician most of us didn't respect.
Show her the respect she showed our area - none!

A minutes silence for a political figure is a really misguided idea and just underlines Whelan's idiocy in my view.

What does it achieve other than aligning the football club with a particular political party or philosophy?

You would be asking a partizan crowd to unilaterally observe something which compromises their democratic rights surely?

Seems to be a worrying time for politicising football at the moment, when you compare this to the ban on anti-fascist banter during the derby match.

I would suggest if the FA wants to prevent fans from referencing stuff like this then they should intervene publicly political people from taking managerial jobs.
Surely this should have been considered alongside PDC's appointment in the first place.

    It's all utter madness...

Historically since the feud between Newcastle and Sunderland dates back to the Civil War it's therefore right that the Black Cats have a minute's silence as they're the traditional Parliamentarians.

Stupid idea. She was only a politician. Minutes silence should be kept for truly significant events, not because some ex-PM is out of power. Exceptions should only be made for people like Churchill who, whatever you think of him, was a truly titanic historical figure.
