ed .. did you read ... Scholes retired, stopped playing full stop ... but was still good enough to come out of retirement and give United such a lift which, but for that incredible finish last season, would have retained United's title ...

and ed .. with all due respect, if you are not watching the bloke week-in week-out you have very little evidence for anything ... the Everton fans I heard on the radio earlier today, who do, seemed very much of the opinion that he was still worth his pay cheque ...

... and you are doing that fine ... but don't get hung up on formations ... good teams have a fluidity about them which often means the formation is secondary to the players capabilities ... Spain have recently been playing without a striker ...

yes but with all due respect he is not paul scholes. Paul scholes game has never been pace or anything, purely sublime passing. He is also managed by sir alex and their fitness team. He is more similar to Danny Murphy, who has been unsuccessful.

Nevilles game is different, it is about putting his body about. I just personally believe we have better options in the CM position. They think he is worth his pay check because of everything he brings to the club. Ross barkley, someone who hardly lit up the championship, is now above him at everton.

Fully agree the point that he is not Paul Scholes - but that's not what we need - the current crop may have some abilities more akin to Scholes ... but they can't win the ball nor protect the defence (as has become patently obvious during this recent poor run) - you don't need to be Usain Bolt to do that - but you do need grit and the ability to both time a tackle, win the ball then find a more gifted colleague ... perfect for Phil Nevile, in fact, all he has ever really done ...

The difference is Man U have the squad to allow both Giggs and Scholes to play a bit part, we don't. Could we justify the wages Neville would command for him to only play say half our games? Probably not with FFP around the corner.

At Man U Fergie can pick and choose when he plays his old guard, they would never be expected to play twice a week as a Championship player would. No doubt Neville would bring many qualities to our squad but I don't like the idea of having to chop and change the center of midfield regularly to accommodate a player that would struggle to meet the demands of playing twice a week, especially one that would command a fair whack in wages.

Good points, well put - frankly I wouldn't take him unless he could prove his fitness at a very stringent medical - (look at Whitbread now) - but I suspect it's all academic because we won't go in for him - but I do have a sneaky feeling that he will do well for whomever he joins - only time will tell.

I rated him very highly when he was here and still do now he is at Barnsley but would anyone else prefere to have Tom Kennedy at LB rather than Konch?

Never really rated him that highly but thought he was a bit unlucky not to get more games last season. Always did ok when given a chance.

I always thought he looked very very composed.

A better LB option now i think.

Yeah I suppose you're right actually, seemed to put a decent cross in too. There was a game last year where he was pushed further foward to LM and did well, can't remember which game.

He'd certainly have been a useful option for us this season.

I always thought he would end up leaving and going onto big things, i was always shocked he never played more. Seemed to give the ball away very rarely, more of a 'pass to DM' then 'Killer hoofball' type of FB
