From this mornings Sun: IPSWICH Town have admitted they face a "struggle" to hold onto England U21 star Connor Wickham after an approach from East-Anglian rivals Norwich City was rebuffed this morning. In a statement released on the club website, Chief Executive Simon Clegg confirmed that an offer had been received for the highly rated youngster, but that the offer fell well short of their ã25m rating. Wickham has picked up many plaudits during his apprenticeship with Town, which has seen him haul an impressive 13 goals in 65 appearances, including a hat-trick against a struggling Doncaster side. Norwich City have refused to comment on the reports, however a source close to manager Paul Lambert has revealed that following Wickhams one decent goal where he took a few players on, he has been a keen admirer. Other interested parties include Arsenal, Real Madrid, Barcelona, Manchester United, Internazionale, Lyon, Colchester United and Diss Town.
Cant see it happening, Steve Gillespie and Connor Wickham?, hardly a match made in heaven, no, we'll just keep looking at the retained list and find a real gem from a non league club.
