I was down the pub earlier tonight and bumped into a QPR supporting mate of mine. He said that his mate is a builder on Jamie Mackie's new house in Surrey. Godalming he thinks or thereabouts. Anyway, Mackie told him that he is very pissed off with the Rangers.

Mackie told him that he is on £29,000 a week, which will get halved if QPR go down as per the relegation clause in his contract. He also mentioned that a couple of older pro's are also on similar contracts. What is pissing him off though is that SWP is on £60,000 a week with no relegation clause as are quite a few others.

Mackie said that he will have to move if we get relegated due to this ' imbalance of parity in the dressing room. ' ( My words. I don't think Mackie could use that expression. )
Although Mackie loves QPR and the fans he doesn't think he can stay at the Ranger's under these conditions.

I have posted this as I can quite believe it. I have no reason to believe that the person who told me this has any agenda to have reason to fabricate or lie. In many ways it explains quite a lot about this season and why it has panned out the way it has. There is an obvious chasm between the 'nouveau riche ' and the old school that has caused a great friction at our club. It need's to be sorted.

    Hmmm

Mackie get 29 K a week??...Ok,he works hard, but Im sorry,he is mid table championship level at best. Most of us dont even get 29k a year let alone a week!.

I dont know about anyone else, but Im actually getting sick of the sight(and sound) of our players now. :steam:

I can fully appreciate that sentiment mate. I applied the same reasoning myself at the time. But realistically in Prem football wages we are talking peanuts. ( Although I agree with you 100%. )

Nines, probably the reason TF said there is going to be a massive clean out at the end of the season, regardless of what happens.

I think Mackie showed us last season that he can play in the EPL. No, he is not top quality in the league by far but he can do a job. I can't blame anyone this year for not having their best form.

Exactly. He may have disappointed this season or been found out (whichever camp you are in) but £29,000 is no where near the average level for PL wages. He has always given 100% and most of the newcomers have not. He is entitled to be disgruntled.

He was happy enough to sign the contract in the first place and I'm sure he was aware of the relegation clause!!
Sounds like he just wants out/to stay in the Prem & is getting in his excuses early!

Perfectly believable, and should be a very good indicator to Mackie of
    a) how good (or otherwise) he is
    b) how good (or otherwise) his agent is
He would be better off trying to help us stay up, learning to jump when in a defensive wall, and keeping his mouth shut when around complete strangers and worrying about his wages after the end of the season.
The team which fits him like a glove in the Prem is Norwich.....but unfortunately he would break their wage cap.

Someone with Jamie's limited ability really ought to be happy with being on £29,000 a week! I'm no big fan of SWP, but he has had 33 England caps. Does Jamie not think that that may be quite a good bargaining chip when it comes to negotiating a contract?
SWP isn't worth £60,000 a week and we should get rid in the summer, but Jamie's wages are about right for his ability imo in the current climate of sky high wages in football.

Mackie was happy with the contract when he signed it. This crap with players whinging about being paid three quarters of a million a year for playing in the Championship need a severe reality check!!!
No wonder there is such a chasm between players and fans - we are in a realm of opposites... wealth and passion! They have the wealth... but not the balls, or passion, to earn it.
If you're not happy... then leave!
I'm a Mackie fan, but this stuff makes me sick!!

....presumably the other 'older pros' are Hill and Derry. All 3 of them have signed new contracts within the last 12 months. Time to shut up about this I think.

    Isn't Norwich's wage ceiling circa £20k?
I would be surprised if the average PL salary was much beyond that figure. Also strikes me that the builder who passed on this info shouldn't be surprised if he doesn't get many recommendations from the Mackie household!!

Also notice...all the chat is about SWP....for all the chat, I expect some of the newer others are on relegation clauses (jenas), or release clauses (Remy/Samba).
The problems I suspect are not with Harrys signings, but Sparky's.

I expect Ferdinand, SWP, Triaore, Cesar, Granero, Zamora and AJ..... have not got these in place and will hang around..it is there the trouble lies

Do you tell your builder what money you're on? Maybe the chap in the corner shop or the bloke who drives the delivery van from Waitrose might need to know too.

Hoqwever, if this is true then he might as well **** off and find another club. How many other teams are going to pay him £1.5m a year (plus all the other money from image rights, etc).

So SWP (and a good few others) are being paid well over the odds, but that is just it ... they are being paid over the odds. They have just been lucky.

He is lucky to have such a well paid job. Maybe he could have made some extra cash if he had put a few goals away this season!

In my opinion he (along with many other Prem players) are grossly overpaid anyway.

I'm not very bothered with Mackies "predicament" if this story is true. What I am worried about is the wage structure within our club. The division between the new and old is definitely one of the factors behind our inconsistent form (form not results as they have been largely consistent). It's the evidence of a club trying to grow to fast, hope the lesson has been learned by TF & co.

What did you earn at Plymouth before you got the chance with us Jamie? If the £29k is correct then Mackie is just as overpaid as SWP imo.

Dopey Hughes for not placing relegation clauses in his signings.

I agree, the massive gulf between the players has to be the root of most of the problems this season, particularly since with one or two exceptions (like Remy), the players on the high wages can hardly claim that they earned it.

I think you are missing the point because I don't think it is just about the money of course if someone is earning 4,5 or 6 times your salary for doing the same job it is bound to irk you and grind you down. Espicially if those around you do not do as well as they are supposed to or in the case of a few of our BIG signings have little or no heart for the battle. I agree with Nines that compared to the average premier league player JM's wages are probably on the low side.

However put yourself in his shoes, we all know shirkers and sick notes in the workplace and they generally piss people off even if they are earning a lot less than you because not pulling your weight or being a team member hurts the harder workers in any sort of company. Also if you have ever had the displeasure of working with a boss that does sod all and you know he earns 3 times your wage it doesn't make you want to go the extra mile or give you a spring in your step.

As mentioned that Norwich would be a good fit for Jamie I would bet he would gladly take a pay cut to play with like minded players to stay in the premier league unlike some of the leaches that have been mentioned.

Good to hear there are relegation clauses. Contrary to what the press tell us eh?
