Looking at the way this season has panned out I reckon the main player City have lacked (strikers accepted) is a combative defensive midfielder who can pass well enough to link with the rest of the attack. TBH I can't remember the last time we had one. Ashbee did the defensive part, but couldn't pass more than a few yards. Who would be the best available option to sign in this position bearing in mind that hopefully we'll be competing in the EPL?
Who has impressed against us this season? Trotter? Who else? I liked the look of gujera from forest. I'm forgetting Tunic life from Man U.
Jeff Hendrick at Derby has been brilliant in midfield for Derby for a couple of years now (and he's Irish...), same goes for Mile Jedinak at Crystal Palace, who I think is now captain. Both would cut it at Premier League level, they have the class. Fathi would also be a great option and would bring experience to a young side. Knowing Steve Bruce, he might go foreign. I've always liked the look of Ruben Yttergard Jensen at Tromso (although I've only ever seen him for Norway), but I think Swanny might have some kind of seizure saying his name properly. He's only 24 and according to his wiki he's made 161 league appearances and has 24 caps for his country, which is pretty impressive given that he's never played outside of his home country, despite interest from some top European clubs (think Juventus and Arsenal showed interested in the not too distant past). Maybe our Portuguese ex-pats can help me out, but isn't there a young English DM playing for Sporting Lisbon? He was at Everton on loan (although I don't recall him playing) and I could swear when he signed the deal they said he was a CB, LB, RB and a DM. EDIT: Eric Dier is his name, he any good? Might be a bit young though...
Perhaps Palacios could come back into the equation if we're in the Premier League, and even more so if Stoke are in the Championship.
