Anyone with half a brain can see Laudrup's success in coaching us into developing 4 different styles this year...we are better at some than others.

Would any of you like to see him experiment a bit more with the formation this summer though? Or would that be too much tinkering for your tastes?

With European competition next year I'd like to see him develop our flexibility further.
    E.G. One formation I think could suit us is 5-4-1 (with wing backs)...could envisage this;

    --------------Vorm---------------
    --------------Chico---------------
    --------Newbie----Ash-----------
    Rangel-------------------Ben/Taylor
    --------------Canas---------------
    ----De Guzman-----Ki------------
    --------------Michu---------------
    --------------Newbie-------------

    Any other suggestions?

i wonder who the newbies will be, read today ML is looking for 3-4 or was it 6 newbies (alzheimers setting in), one would have to be a striker, even 2, one a MF interesting times ahead

Flying wing backs are ok only if they are disciplined, quick & willing enough to work back , unless both Ki & De Guzman get their act together in the middle then thats not my preferred pairing.Routledge is too good a player to be on the bench and another year older for Rangel, could he play that position consistently. As you haven't mentioned Leon, Dyer, Kemy, Tiendalli,Bartley. Lomah ,Richards assuming that they're still with the club next year then the I'd say there's quite a few options to choose from.If Curtis is correct and 4-6 new players are signed God knows how Mr Laudrup will set us up ,no wonder he's excited at the prospect .

Was thinking of this formation as more of, we've got an away tie in Europe and want to stifle but still carry a threat...to be used only a handful of times.
Would always have Leon in the starting XI in our usual formation when we set out to attack with wingers.

Very good point about the wing-backs, big ask of them in this formation.

For this formation to work the key men are; Chico (sweeper), Canas/Britton (or maybe both) and the wing-backs.

    How about 5-3-2 then?

    -------------Vorm---------------
    -------------Chico---------------
    ----Newbie---------Ash---------
    Rangel--------------------Ben/Taylor
    ---------Canas--Leon-----------
    ---------Ki/DeGuz/Routledge---
    ---------Michu----Newbie-------

I think it would be good for a couple of games in Europe but I can't see it happen TBH I think we will set up for quick pace counter attacking with our regular formation.

Interesting options Terror, liking the idea of innovative, progressive thinking for Europe.....

Would be intrigued to accommodate CHICO in a Yaya Toure / Viera role -

    - He has the skill, engine, pace to get up and down, reading of the game and desire

Hadn't thought of that but you're absolutely right, he'd be perfect there....we could have had our midfielder enforcer all the while

he is playing michu as the main striker next game....Why when it is not his main position and we have strikers at the club......I'm sorry but he is beginning to lose the plot with his tactics as results must show him, give donnelly a bloody go as a striker If he dont want moore and play michu in his preferred attacking midfield roll......We really dont want to go 5 win less games through odd ball tactics.....

Tell you what , why don't you say why you spoiled it ,or better still why not start a thread devoted to the mangers short comings , it could become a sticky so every time theres something wrong in your opinion you could post it there rather than use every other thread .<doh>

Dai the thread was about imaginary set ups through the summer and next year - yet you pulled your Mr Negativity again - that's why it was spoiled - your post had nothing to do with the thread:emoticon-0120-doh:

Isn't this thread about what kind of setup Laudrup could experiment with through the summer and next season with us being in Europe? not what will be played next game, so IMO you have dumped a big can of Spam on a perfectly legitimate thread.
