Of course it isn't Jager, other than the City of London and the South East of England, the rest of the UK is still in a deep rooted recession. Hell fire I'd even argue that other than the City and South East, the rest of the UK have been in the recession since 2008 and haven't got out of it. Then there are arguments that since that bi**h closed down the heavy industries, the communities affected have been in a recession for the best part of 25 years.

You obviously have no idea about the subject if you truly believe that, Thatcher's policies led directly to our current situation. She put banks on a bigger power trip than that held by the Unions before she got power. Why Thatcher supporters ignore this is beyond me, she has not only ruined this country but her and friend Regan caused the current world recession THIRTY years later by giving them to much power. Ever since then we have been a one sector economy and that sector constantly threatens to leave if we put a leash around their necks once more.

THAT is Thatcher! The ***** can rot in hell!

policies put forward by thatcher are largely responsible for the state of the good old uk today, greed and an attitude of i am alright jack and f*ck everybody else were at the forefront of her thinking, sell off all the family silver to pay those on the dole, get rid of manufacturing, sell all the council houses but don't build new council homes to replace them, and make a lot of her tory friends very rich, while millions of britons were living in extreme poverty, thatchers support of pol pot and how she lied to the british people over that, like i said earlier she was pure evil

Oh right. So the successive governments worldwide since then bear no responsibility at all?

Bill Clinton deregulated the US banking sector in the late 90's. Gordon Brown did much the same in the UK. He needed to to fuel the artificial boom he used to spunk countless billions away on the public sector.

I'm afraid if you're looking to pin the blame for the credit crunch and recession since 2008 you're going to have to look a little closer to home than two politicians who haven't been in power for at least 22 years, although the left are traditionally very good at blaming anyone and everyone else for their failings.

Ask yourselves WHY she shut the mines?

There wasn't enough coal to mine that was making profit, and the government had to plunge money into it. She had a decision to make, and she made one. Had they stayed open, how much more would the Goverment had to have paid out to keep it going?

Chico, i was working with a thermo geologist over here that worked in South Wales mining many years ago, he was telling me that the amount of coal in them there hills is ****ing unbeleivible ! with newer technologies it would be very cost effective and profitable these days.

The reason for not using our own natural resources ?? not because there was none left or it cost too much but because its better for Britain on a strategic level to exhaust other countries first and keep ours for later, as an island Nation its critically important we maintain our own levels of fossil fuels and are able to gain access to them if needed .

    Chico

I think the argument was more about the size of profits - not that coal mining in the UK was unprofitable - the energy companies had to pay for coal - but cheaper imported coal meant more wealth for those supplying the energy companies - bigger bonuses. bigger dividends (and sod the unemployment impact) and the miners always wanted to chellenge the 'sustainability' piece but were never given a real chance to do so..

Harold Wilson closed more coal mines than Thatcher, but that's OK, 'cos he was Labour.
