Over the last 10 games there have been a few 'must win' games and 'last roll' scenarios, most of which we have managed to scew up. In my mind, I had viewed the Villa games onwards as the 'last roll' scenario but then I got thinking a bit more laterally. Imagine you are TF, Amit & Co. Somehow, you have pusuaded one of the hottest young striking talents around to come to Loftus Road and (mainly) he has not disappointed. So, we get relegated. The parachute payments are substantial though small compared to the pockets of the consortium running the club. I wonder whether, therefore, the 'last roll' is to keep the whole jolly lot in the Championship, gambling that we might win it as easily as Newcastle did the season they went down. This is really in response to what others have stated that a club such as ours gets a Loic Remy every 20 years or less often. If I was TF & Co I think I would explore any scenario whereby the lad stayed and we built around a proper strike force. Probably just a pipe dream but....?
I've always said NEXT season (if we do get relegated) is the probably the most important in our history. Win the Championship at a canter and playing a year in the lower league will seem just a mere blip in what will be a successful and hopefully established Premiership team in the future. But if we don't go up on the first attempt.....it could all look very nasty. Personally, my money is on the former....but I am an eternal optimist
I have said all along that a vast majority of this squad will stay together There will be no cattle sale IMO There will be no quest for budding like Flyer talent IMO that is a pipe dream The team will stay together and grow and I believe will still survive If we were to get relegated then this squad and team will storm the championship Idiot fans at LR will come to understand why Bosingwa is a brilliant player why Park is class and the others who have been rubbished The players the squad are very strong yet the team of course is nowhere near filling its potential . Regardless of the results if you cannot see that this team can in large parts control and play at this level then sorry you are missing it. I cannot back up the results of course not but you think long enough you know I have a point and always have had . I really do shake my head when I read some of the stuff as much as you shake yours at my madness but this thread is on the money about keeping this lot together Harold is putting his mark on the club No one knows the future but IMo this lot should stay together as I can feel a new soul growing
I know you are an optimist Staines and you're still a believer (well, a little bit!). I keep looking at the fixtures and just wondering!! Wigan definitely have a tougher run in that us and it is not inconceivable that we will end up above them and Reading. The question then is, can we catch SUnderland? They play Newcastle (a), Everton (h), Villa (a), Stoke (h), Soton(h) and their last is Tottenham away. Those with a maths brain may be able to make something of the fact that Wigan and Sunderland both have to play Villa, possibly giving us a catch up opportunity. It really is not quite over yet.
Read the headline and thought here we go again, if we beat Everton if if if if if. But no! You've come and made a very intereresting OP here RTID. Let's debate! This is a thought/dream I've been contemplating myself for a couple of months. Agree very much re the Remy arguement. For me loosing him would be the biggest disappointment alongside going down. As you say, these kind of players only come by every 20 years or so for a club like ours. If the players really are true to their word about believing in the "project" and that they are in this for the long haul then this might not only be a pipe dream. And as some pointed out on another thread, a relegation will smoke the real mercenaries out. DT is very much right that it won't be a fire sale when relegated. Mainly because it is very complicated shifting so many players in such a short space of time. The ones that'll leave are the ones have relegation clauses in their contracts, who's contract has run out and the club don't want to keep, and the ones that recieve interest from other clubs. There won't be many imo. The ones that are likely to leave regardless are Cesar, Granero and Remy. There will be interest in Mbia and Hoilett. Samba if there are any takers, but I have a sneaky feeling we'll try and build our promotion push around him. Faurlin coming back could strike a very good partnership with Jenas in the centre of midfield. Hopefully Diakite will find his feet, if he does he could totally dominate the Championship. Samba and Hill/Onouha as our centre backs. IF (big if i know) Andy Johnson keeps injury free he'll score 25 for us. DJ Campbell, Bothroyd both excellent Championship forwards. Lots of potential for a good season imo.
Don't know, winning is a habit that we haven't quite got the hang of since we arrived in the premiership, won't just start happening just because we've arrived in a lower league. If you list the clubs in the bottom half of the PL at the moment - Reading, QPR, Wigan, Villa, Sunderland, Norwich, Newcastle, Saints - I'm not so sure that any of them could be regarded as hot favourites to return at first time of asking. The Championship is a hard slog and a bloody tough league to get out of and I would prefer not to have to go through the exercise if at all possible. Of course, holding on to our best players would increase our chances so if money is the main factor in doing so then we clearly have an advantage over the opposition.
Mate, you have been vindicated about Boswinga IMO. I just hope you are right about everything else you've stated too!
We won it fairly easily last time around with the squad we had. No major names, just got off to a good start and never looked back ..................
Queens Parks Rangers are facing the urgent prospect of having to restructure their finances if they are relegated to the Championship or be punished by either a future transfer embargo or a huge fine. please log in to view this image please log in to view this image By Jeremy Wilson11:00PM BST 08 Apr 2013 The Football League’s Financial Fair Play regulations come in to full force from the 2013-14 accounting year and it was confirmed yesterday that relegated clubs will definitely not be given additional time to adjust. There had been debate about whether demoted top-division clubs should be given an extra year’s grace but they will be subject to the same rules as the other Cham*pionship clubs from the next *financial year. The basic principle is that clubs should not spend more than they earn but the Football League will allow an “acceptable deviation” of £3million as well as shareholder equity of up to £5million in 2013-14. This means that losses, excluding money spent on infrastructure, cannot exceed £8million. In their most recent accounts, for the year 2011-12, QPR posted a loss of £22.6 million and a wages-to-revenue ratio of 90 per cent. The belief is that QPR’s costs and losses will have only increased over the last year, during which time Loïc Remy, Christopher Samba, Julio César, Esteban Granero, Ji-Sung Park and Rob Green have joined. If relegated, they would also have to cope with an annual deficit of around £25million between the parachute payment and their guaranteed Premier League income. Although 2013-14 will be the first period that is scrutinised, the sanctions would not apply until after the figures have been assessed in December 2014. If clubs who are adjudged to have broken the rules are still in the Championship, they will be subject to an immediate transfer embargo. If a club has been promoted, they will be fined up to £10million, depending on their overspending. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/football/teams/queens-park-rangers/9980319/Queens-Park-Rangers-facing-financial-woe-if-relegated-from-Premier-League.html
****, didn't notice this thread.....just written a similar one......whoopsie!! RTID, Great minds thinks alike, eh
Team next season: -------------------?????------------------- Onouha-------?????------Hill---------Traore/Yun --------------Derry------Faurlin----------- Mackie------------Jenas------------Hoilett/????? -----------Johnson/Bothroyd/DJ----------- ...or: -------------------Green------------------- Onouha------Samba------Hill---------Traore/Yun ---------------Mbia-------Jenas------------ Mackie/SWP-------Taarabt-----------Hoilett -----------Johnson/Bothroyd/DJ----------- Bench: -Park -Faurlin -Diakite By the way, does anyone believe there is a slight chance Spurs would let us have Townsend again? Nah, probably not. After his showing for us it will go down the same way as Walker, they will have no problem finding a taker in the Prem and Townsend would most likely prefer it to.
We have a good chance of keeping many of our players. But with Remy it gonna be really hard because of the world cup coming up next summer. Would think he will want to be playing in the premier league to increase his chances of playing in Brazil...
We may get to keep Townsend ( if he wants to stay ) by selling Spuds, Remy ..................... or thereabouts.
You're going to need a 20 goal player next season. And realistically, you all know it won't be Loic Remy. Better hope Harry - or his successor - can unearth someone.
I did clock that before posting but a very different psychology was operating then. Aiming for the promised land, getting off to a winning start that carried on for months on end. A manger who just seemed right for that team at that time. This time we will have come back from the promised land, lost players who we all know (including those that remain) are the better players and be under fair play rules too. Does not fill me with confidence but so long as we play well, win a few more than we have done over the last two seasons and show intent at promotion again then I won't complain. Please, please keep us away from League 1 though!
