Academic for me as I live in Spain,. but if I was living in England, I would'nt buy a ticket. Typical, I can remember you saying this season was exciting as there were no guaranteed results (or something) but reading the posts on here, it's the dreadfull performances that bug everyone (though if we nicked a few more undeserved wins it might at least make the atmousphere less glum). The fact is that while I'm glued on the PC every weekend following the games, the anticipation is zero, and if I was paying, I'd have avoided Burnley, and would probably think twice before watching the Bolton game. Someone on here rightly pointed out that as customers we have no right to be consulted on how the club is run, though it runs much nearer to our hearts than how, for example, Sainsbury's is run. However, what we do have is the right to decline to spend hard earned money on a sporting spectacle that is often excruciating, regularly derisory and rarely a plesure. What else would you do that involved spending money on something that often made you miserable and sometimes furiously angry? If the directors want big season ticket sales, they might consider doing something to promote them, as on current form, they could find themselves seriously dissappointed, and face it, that will ht the club, and therefore the fans. ie us.
A strange situation in a way. Season ticket holders staying away, others vowing not to renew because of the poor home form, and yet not a word of criticism of the manager. Not on this forum at any rate. Obviously any criticism of The Doctor is going to be muted because he is a Charlton legend as well as a super guy, but if our owners see season ticket sales slump and no sign of improvement in our home form you don't have to be Einstein to know what they'll do. I reckon this is why CP hasn't been offered a new contract yet. The unpleasant thought also crosses my mind that maybe the players are starting to have private doubts about CP's tactical ability, so if they don't want the unthinkable to happen they had better start performing at home, pronto.
I think Chris Powell has performed admirably given the last minute change of plans to the seasons preparations. At the beginning of pre-season we were all excited about who we'd be signing and we're linked with all kinds of players. Unfortunately things changed drastically and we went from being within hours of signing Sam Baldock to signing Kerkar. I don't think there's a better physical example of how our season objectives changed. The mandate from the new owners was a '3 year plan' to get back to the EPL, but this season that has changed. I genuinely believe based on last season that the owners want us to succeed, but unfortunately the lack of communication from the club combined with an element of unwanted support has caused just as much frustration off the pitch as it has on it. Season ticket sales will no doubt be down next year, I predict by about 15%, but I don't think CP has done anything to not deserve our full support for now.
I thought they would be down. but the people I know who have held tickets for the last 2-3 years have already renewed.
Four people I know have now renewed. They all gave at least two of the following reasons - The hike could be enormous, get in while you can. The Zebra Finance deal All renewed with this facility. Takes the sting out/simplest finance deal I've ever seen - easier than DFS! I've been supporting for 18/22/31 years, I'm not just going to walk away/what else would I do on a Saturday afternoon. We knew this season was going to be hard as we consolidate in the Championship, the football will be better next season. One said, as I did before last season, that he thought last season was going to be a consolidation period with the push for promotion to the Champ coming this season. He's of the opinion that, if this is possible, the side was promoted too early. Callum Harriott The away form shows the true potential of the side, the difference in quality home and away has been huge. That will be my only purchase from the club this season Things going will be shirts, programmes and food/drink The side next season will be unrecognisable from this one, it'll be like the novelty of watching a brand new squad last season all over again, although the final outcome may not be the same Have to say, I don't agree with the last one, I think the core of the side will be substantially the same as this season. I'd be interesting to know whether these views are widely held.
It's in my blood so win lose draw championship or conference ill be there week in week out so as that's the case it's cheaper getting a season ticket
Now offering two free match tickets with every ST. Assume that means renewals are going slowly or this perk would have been offered to begin with. How will that work then if I want the person I take to sit beside me?
If they had any sense that they would renew the old offer, if we get back into the premiership after next season then existing season ticket holders can renew at this season's prices. Prem is worth £70m so this would not cost that much money
I wanted to get my ticket for Wolves after the game on Saturday, but the queue was enormous - don't know for certain whether it was people renewing, but I haven't seen it like that this season. I think it's quite significant that last season we were being updated on a regular basis on how many tickets had been sold, but this season there's not been a peep. There's two possible scenarios here - firstly, season ticket sales are well down and they didn't want to depress sales further by giving the figures or sales are well up on last season and they want to make a big splash of it when the offer comes to an end. I think I know where my bet would be going.
Oh yes, and I'm getting absolutely sick of not being able to buy tickets online for one b******t reason or another - ten pence a minute, that'll do nicely, thanks!
I can't speak for the commercial centre/ticket office, but I would guess that if there were no seats available next to you for your chosen match, you could move your season ticket for the day and sit in another part of the ground, where there's space. If that's not their plan, then I have no idea. Not arguing on this one, but what happens if the club misses out on promotion (and no reason to think the club is likely to win promotion next season)? Would the club possibly increase ticket prices for another season in the Championship, whereas they would've kept them the same if winning promotion? Not a problem if the club are in the promotion battle at this stage next year, because there would be people renewing and buying tickets on the feelgood factor and possible promotion. However, if it's a season like this one, or even like, say, Derby's has been (never really in promotion or relegation battle), it could pose an issue.
Exactly how i feel at the moment. I have not bothered renewing as it would have been just under a grand for me and the missus to carry on going and i have not enjoyed going to The Valley this season. I feel the board have led me and everyone else astray as unless we sign very good players and do not sell our best assets the 5 year plan was clearly bs, and for that reason i just cant commit
I have not renewed either, essentially for the reasons set out in the two quoted posts. Feel better about it than three weeks ago but I just need a whole lot more certainty about next year if I am to justify the outlay at this point. I can see a scenario where Solly, Wiggins, Hamer and Stephens are sold with little outlay ion replacements leading to a massive season long struggle. I also don't want to be tied down in advance to 23 games. I've missed three this season, partly due to illness but if I'm being honest I've had to drag myself to a few games when I'd rather have been doing something else. Bit of a life reassessment going on at the moment! My mate who I go with is not a CP fan and has not renewed either. Another decision point in June when we would have to give up our seats but I don't think I'll feel differently. Pay as you go again for us next season.
I admit this is the most ambivalent I've felt about attending home games - probably because of the cold as much as anything - but I've renewed. Partly because I want to be one of them people in The Sun in 50 years time who can say 'I've been a season ticket holder since 2003'. Partly because at the moment work is going well and I can afford it now. But mostly because I love Charlton regardless (not just the Football itself, more the experience if anything) and no matter how out of love I may be at any one point, I know that come the close of July I will be desperate to go again!
Just seen the prices for tickets after the renewal deadline, and mine would have only been £30 cheaper if i had renewed before now. The club were making out as if it was going to be huge, personally think that is a little bit sly. Must say i will probable go to most if not all games next season even if i don't end up getting a season ticket, but only if i see assurances my money is not going to be p*ssed up the wall
Sales down 13% from same time last year (9200 then, 8000 now). About what I expected. My ticket would now be £475 as opposed to £425 which was the post deadline price this season. That's an 11% rise. £20.65 per game if you have 100% attendance. Each to their own conclusions. For me it pay as you go.
