There's a slight flaw in your Wigan reasoning - if Wigan are a point behind us with a game in hand then Wigan won't be in the relegation spots... Which means we'll still be clear of relegation, even if we're unlucky and all results go against. In fact, I no longer look at Wigan as the third team to be relegated. So safety will be close, though I agree not mathematically certain and possibly not as clear as we might like if results are terrible.

As for us relying on other results, that's simply untrue - our fate will always be in our own hands until we are in a relegation spot. That's what the phrase means. It means if we win all our last games, we'll stay up, which is true. Conversely, QPR might win all their remaining games and still go down, ergo their fate is not in their hands.

I must admit I don't remember you ever once saying you thought Stoke would go down - just that you wanted them to go down (which is understandable!), but happy to be corrected.

I agree about your assessment of our play except for awful results. They're not ideal, but we are picking up points so it cannot be awful. In fact, prior to the match and assessing the season so far, I'd go so far as to say it was a good point v Swansea (though I accept with retrospect it didn't feel so). Also, we have the slight bonus over Stoke and Sunderland that our form may be (slowly) improving assuming that the middle third v Swansea wasn't a false dawn.

Wigan could still be in the relegation spots with the scenario described, do you know how the other teams will fair? The point really was that the team presently in the relegation spot could be much much, closer in one game time with a game in hand.

I wasn't disputing the phrase, I was disputing our ability to see it through where we are the ones that save ourselves not a reliance on the crap below us not catching up.

I have mentioned Stoke a few times for relegation, we done predictions at the start of the season I'm fairly sure Stoke were on mine (may have been West Ham), anyway I've long thought they were ripe for the drop.

The results are most definitely awful, that is why as each game passes we are getting closer and closer to the drop zone, we are now in that final dross above the relegation which I hope (point wise) we can compete with. When was the last time we went up the table following a weekend of fixtures? Not for a long long time.

Continue with the negative diatribe. It's going to make it all the more satisfying

Beef, this new 'hat' you've decided to wear, the one that says "contrary NCFC bastard in chief" on the front.... I'm personally getting totally jarred off with it.

May I suggest you start a forum of your own where only your opinion counts and no one else is allowed to contribute - because in the last two or three days, that's where you're taking this one. And I like ****ing Coldplay <grr>

You seem very confused Beef, you need to be able to distinguish between assessment and wishful thinking.

All my argument is based upon is that we should be playing differently to attain more points.

Your argument is based on what you want to happen and has no real basis on the here and now and evidence before you.

You haven't once come up with any reason as to WHY we will stay up, just that because you want us (Sooooooooooooo much more than anyone else) to stay up, so we will.

Just you're usual nonsensical made up ideas to walk hand in hand with your naff life philosophies spouted once a week (sometimes more).

I'm not denying anyone an opinion, but Carrabuhs opinion is clearly we are rubbish, everything about us is rubbish and we might as well just accept inevitable relegation.

    I say **** that.

I say back the lads, back the manager and drive them across the line into an era that will change this club forever. Permanently. There are some fans that want us to fail so they can be proved right. This is not acceptable when so much is on the line.

I say, say what you want on a message board as it has absolutely no effect on whether we stay up or go down.

Even an (apparently) professional FEAR SPREADER<ghost> like me can't make a difference Beef, I doubt your lame attempts at chest thumping is going to either.

People are not stupid, they can think for themselves.

I know your beliefs. You've nailed your colours very firmly to the mast on every post on every thread for days on end now <yikes>

There's no need to bring carrabuh into your reply to my last post as I personally have no squit with him.

But you ranting at him/the binners/the world in general is NOT going to improve our points tally or performances, so just ****ing calm down!

It just jars me that some fans can be so negative all season then just join in with the successes. Doom mongering is a horrendous offence.

It's a marathon, not a sprint. Our fortunes and peoples attitudes and expectations fluctuate over the course of a season. It will always be thus and there's nothing you can say or do to change that - sadly.
I admire your optimism, but would appreciate a little more realism on occasions too, when and where it's due <ok>

So does that mean you can't be sad if we do get relegated?

You have absolutely no idea about the things people are discussing Beef and why. I think it must only appeal to you on a very basic level.
