Certainly was. That's why I ended up in Nottingham because the cow obliterated jobs in the North.

No - The ruthless bitch who premeditatedly allowed a war to happen for the sake of winning votes. And yes she managed to overthrow the hugely powerful Argy forces at the cost of a lot of British lives.

We didn't have any coalmines in Hull.

Just decades of a Labour council.

You seem to have a very polarised view of things back then.

Most people I knew back then also ****ed off , many never to return.

    That was 30 years ago.

Nowt's changed- despite years of a Labour govt (and Tory ones too).

You know Craig, I'm thinking this prosperity lark...it's not just down to one politician's perceived prejudices.

Maybe other bigger national or international market factors are at work, and have more weight in this?

    Just a thought.

Not all manufacturing jobs were obliterated in the North, I had full employment in manufacturing throughout the Thatcher years, best years of my life the 80's in Hull.

I think you'll find it was Galtieri and his floundering cronies who used the invasion to distract his domestic population with a popular military sortie. Even his conscript 'army' were unprepared. (Remember?)

    Thatch and co caught napping.

i loved Maggie, she made Britten great, and i am a jock and she gave us the pole tax a year before you guys. people who are slagging her off are all the ones who prob live on benefits, and their dad was in a closed shop backed by unions who only wanted power for themselves. she said work hard and build your empire and you will reap the rewards, and she was right.

    RIP

Which would have been destroyed if it had been left there. Lucky decision to remove it I'd say. Unless you'd have preferred it was sunk?

The international situation always has a baring, but that doesn't get over the fact that Thatcher was basically a reactionary and confrontational figure. She always sought her next battle because she loved the tag of The Iron Lady.

First she went to war with the miners and put most on the dole, then she allowed war in the Falklands causing a lot of British deaths and then she finally took on the whole country with the Poll Tax and thankfully lost.

If my views are polarised you need to take a long look at your own.

So come on then, Craig, Ray, Klutz etc, who would you have rather seen as PM from that time? Reasons would be nice too.

You obviously don’t understand how the invasion fist started. It started with Argentinean scrap dealers moving in to dismantle disused walling stations which they would not have done have we had a military presence in the area.
