Didn't Frankie Boyle used to be a comedian? What's he doing now that he's ceased to be funny?

Ulster is British, the Irish Republic is Irish- not sure what your point is, Stan.

I imagine Gerry and co are just pissed off because she and her government stood up to the 10 Hunger Strikers.

Perhaps their killing of Airey Neave shaped her views?

Their blowing up of the Brighton Hotel confirms she was 100% right.

Apparently they had bigger rooms and better lifts, and in her frailty, these were of value.

    (**** that she was/is)

    <laugh>

    Jesus, that made me laugh.

Some of the stuff on this thread is lower than a snake's belly and it genuinely saddens me to see so many people consumed by their illogical toxic hatred of one of our democratically- elected (3 times in a row) PMs.

Some real political basket cases on here.

Know your history, Dumbo. The Six Counties were carved out of Eire precisely because Britain had previously inundated them with Scottish Protestants.

There were more than a few questions asked at the time about why we hadn't sent even a minimum force to defend the islands considering there had been a so many rumblings about an imminent Argy invasion.
But as is often the case soldiers lives are usually expendable when it comes to politics and there's nothing like a good war to pick up a few votes.

That's one view, Stan. There are others. How far do you want to go back?

More a fact than a view...

If you want to go back further, you'll find there is even less reason for Great Britain to be involved in Ireland at all.

Down to complacent embassy officials in Buenos Aires and a lack of rigour in intelligence circles.

However if you wish to see it through a bizarre distorting prism of some plot to kill working class men that's your perogative.

Fair enough, I was just guessing based on the music used and the way it looked(not that there was was a massive difference between how it looked in 80 and 85).

This is an exception to prove the rule about no politics on here. I'll let it run, as long as people are 'reasonable' and we don't drift off too far, as such can we end the discussion on Ireland on here. Ta.

They're hardly occupied territories, both Northern Ireland and the Falklands are subject to self determination, if they want to cease being under British jurisdiction, they only have to ask.

Though the Falklands have to wait until we've got the oil out first. <ok>

The Ulster plantations go back centuries and are older than the USA, Ulster is British by the democratic will of the majority there and Thatchers defiance in the face of IRA attacks has helped keep Ulster British to this day. No surrender.

Please pretend that the comment above doesn't mention Ireland.

    Sorry Dutch...

Absolute ****e. It was General Galtieri's main policy, and he made no secret about it. Don't try to re-invent history to protect your Tory idol, she was a ruthless bitch.
