I'd play tettey and Johnson in midfield and holt/kamara up front. Becchio coming on when kamara gets knackered out.

I agree that you can't play everyone but CH must have seen something in Becchio otherwise why acquire him?

I don't criticise KK as I think he has done really well playing out of position but given our lack of firepower since bringing Becchio to NCFC in January having a striker fresh and waiting for a chance and not even trying him does seem strange. We are not privy to what goes on behind the scenes at Colney and Becchio may not be as good as CH hoped but he must be worth a shot playing off the striker in a match if only to change things and give Wes a rest and the feeling of there being some competition in the squad.

OK, but the point stands that he is out of position and the more obvious choice would have been Becchio, particularly with Pilks out because Kamara could be played out wide.

No, true, you can't play everyone. Perhaps it boils down to the fact that, given we play with only one up top, with Kamara now a de facto first choice striker, we have three strikers and Becchio is third in the order.

Nonetheless, begs the question, what the point of getting him in, when Morison was a perfectly decent (and in my opinion proven goal-scorer in the Prem, if not regularly) third choice.

It was a shuffling of the pack that cost us very little. A calculated risk.

It may yet pay off, I rate Becchio I think he's a good striker. Whittaker has been great its not fair he isn't strong games either its just a fact of football at this time of year.

    Personally I'd go
    Ruddy (assuming he's fit)
    Martin/Turner/Bassong/Garrido
    Whittaker/Johnson/Tetty/Snodgrass
    Holt/Becchio

I think that Whittaker will make us a bit more combative in midfield than EB who could come on later to burn tiring defenders. Similarly KK could come on as well for one of the front two or a midfielder depending on the game situation

My team for Arsenal (perhaps a little maverick).

    Ruddy
    Martin Turner Bassong Whittaker
    Tettey Johnson
    Snodgrass Howson Bennett
    Becchio

I heard Whittaker can play on the left (might not be true) and I feel Garrido is struggling at the moment so could be a good opportunity to rest him. Whittaker also adds a good threat going forward (though maybe not from the left, depending on his experience). Defensively, inverted wingers so that Bennett can help out. Becchio to "do a Morison" against Arsenal's rapid, but lightweight, centre-halves.

I suspect the good performance will mean the same team, unfortunately (Ruddy aside maybe). I just fear that Kamara's speed will be rendered impotent against the Arsenal defence and we will have even less going forward.

EDIT: actually, if we have Becchio up top, might not want inverted wingers so that we can whip in early crosses.

Firstly I like this should attack well.

Secondly there were things about the Morison deal which made me think it was initiated by Leeds, it was known that Colin wasn't really a fan of Bechio but did rate Morison, combined with an interview that Morison gave saying that leeds wanted him so he decided to leave. I'm sure we rated Bechio too we wouldn't have done the deal otherwise but i just have a feeling it was Leeds who came calling not the other way round.

Should be. Has come on as a sub twice and apparently played 60 mins for the reserves last week. Might need subbing, obviously, but then I've thought Hoolahan is best as an impact sub in the last year or so.

    Interesting point.

That certainly puts a very different picture on the deal. I certainly remember rumours that Colin tried to buy Morison when we did, but obviously the club sale hadn't gone through and QPR fans were obviously much happier with SWP and Dyer.

Im sorry everyone but as much as I love Grant Holt, he is feckin fat! I could see his moobs from my seat on saturday as he made yet another reckless and care free challenge. Yeah he has had a thankless task this season and I commend him on his effort but he is well overweight and 2/3 uards slower than last season!

Been categorically proved to be false. The club monitor everyones body fat percentage and weight. If Holt was overweight he wouldn't be in the bench he'd be out of the team.

Would he though? On his wages and with the crowd already anxious? I saw with my own eyes on sat that he looks unfit and definitely has moobs. Id play Becchio as at least he has had more game time and scored a few goals (albeit in the championship) this year. Hes also less likely to hinder us by being sent off as Holt should have been twice recently.

I feel bad having a go at Holt because, as I mentioned earlier, he has had a tough job and been a legend fo us, but he simply hasnt showed any sign of his old self recently (bar the goal vs Everton).

Joe Dunne has just put out his shopping list for next season, David Fox and Marc Tierney, if Grant Holt has to come as part of the package so be it.

To be fair to Holty even in the championship two years ago he had a few matches when he played up front on his own and didn't do much. I remember a game against Barnsley (when crofts scored his wondergoal) and Holt was the lone striker and played very similarly to how he is this season. It just doesnt seem to suit him but we don't need to revolve the team arond him anymore so we can play 4-5-1. Its not something he is suddenly not that effective at this season, he has never been a decent loan striker. Still love him though

What's all this carp about Holty he has not changed come on binners remember his challenge in the first five mins of the 4-1 he always leaves his mark!!
He plays for the team respects his managers choices and gets on with it just a load of rubbish that he is unhappy
Hope he starts against arsenal with Jacko beside him but doubt that will ever happen

I agree Ricky Lambert has looked a class act but so did Holty last year in his first year in the Premiership. Could it be that most teams do not dismiss him so easily as they once did and look to nullify his game? Could it also be that Southampton play free flowing attacking football and create many more chances for their strikers? If the ball was to drop to Holt in the box then I would still fancy him to put it away - how many times can you remember him missing a sitter during this entire season? If you can you can be rest assured it is because it is the only meaningful chance we would have created for the whole of that game!!!
