I dont think it has much to do with the missus being away as he has stated on numerous occassions now for the first two and half season she did not live in norfolk and was here for 12 months before their kids started in their private school back up north.
I have a feeling they can't ban him retrospectively because the ref gave a foul for the tackle - that means someone (linesman or ref) "saw" it and current rules are that the FA will not overrule something "seen" by the officials. They can extend the punishment for certain red card offences, though. As for Holt, I agree with most of the above, particularly KoPR - i.e. he deserves to start if he's going to get service as he is clearly our best striker (there's no way he's looked like a League 1 player - he's just not had anything to work with). However, he really needs to show that he's not going to be a liability. Of course, his great strength is the energy he brings to the game, but he should act like an experienced head and a captain. Interesting point by Zeller re. confidence - that's a possibility. I also do not see Holt leaving this summer: (a) he is on a good salary which I doubt anyone else will pay him; (b) even if he was willing to take a pay cut, who would buy him for the price we would ask?; and (c) he is getting old, but his style won't be cramped too much by that - he could become a great impact substitute, which I see his role being for the last two years of his contract. Maybe Hughton's acclimatising everyone to this role for Holt? I also cannot understand the point of Becchio if he's not going to be played.
As far as I'm concerned, he can go. He threw his toys out of the pram because he wanted top money and to be top dog at the club. I'm not caught up in the Norfolk hysteria that we owe all our players the world for what they have done. They are heroes in footballing terms of course but we don't owe them a thing. They are all commodities and Holt would have moved to a different club for a better contract. And you couldn't blame him either, or any of them. And I think we have to face it that as a squad we are looking like Championship players under the CH system. Most of them are reverting to type. They lifted themselves to a certain degree last year and a lot of that was down to a manager who gave them all the credit and none of the blame. In fact, I think they were inspired. The current squad doesn't look to have that inspiration. Its scripted and if it doesn't work, they look poor. And I think Holt was the biggest benefactor under Lambert system but the biggest loser under the current one. But he should be professional enough to realise that is the name of the game and you either put up with it or move on.
It's starting to look more and more like a deal done to get Steve Morison out of the club? I imagine Becchio wishes he'd stayed put at Leeds! And they talk about the 'lure of the Premier League'
A little, yes... Truly bizarre. Becchio can clearly finish, so why not at least give him a chance and properly "rest" Holt. When he was signed I thought he could do a Jackson for us and have a scoring spree, but he's never had the opportunity. I suppose he has the comfort that we're paying more and he will be here next year.
Beccio at leeds did not play as a lone striker did he? thiought he played the role Wes is playing ? And IMO if hughton wanted a target man or lone striker Morison was the player to keep, last season while grant was out he played that role brilliantly, he may not have scored to many goals but you only have to look at how hard Holt has found it this season to see what a excellent job Morison actually did and never got credit for it.
It's not that bizzare. He probably would have got game time on Saturday but we only had two subs after having to take bunn off.
By "game time" I assume you mean c. 6 minutes? How many minutes has Becchio had on the pitch in total since we bought him? The amount of game time he has had is bizarre for three reasons: (a) his transfer cost, at a guess, was £2-3 million; (b) with Holt needing a rest you would expect Becchio, as our second striker (given his transfer fee I'd expect him to be ahead of Jackson), to come in; and (c) Kei Kamara was touted as a winger, played predominantly as a winger in the US (as I understand it), does not seem to have really played as a lone striker and (while he has done a good job), from what I have seen does not really move or play like a lone striker.
I could be wrong but wasn't the Becchio/Morrison deal pretty much a swap? Basically we swapped one player who CH didn't use for another player CH doesn't use. If CH wanted him and used Moro as a makeweight I struggle to understand why he doesn't at least give him the odd 15-20 minutes to see if he can make a difference unless he is not as good as CH had hoped in which case you have to ask why CH bought him in the first place? I reckon Wes is due a rest and would love to see Holt/Becchio launched at Arsenal with KK coming off the bench against tired defenders in the second half. Obviously won't happen as CH is allergic to playing two up top and about as likely to make a tactical substitution as Holty is to sign for Ipswich but you can always dream!
I am afraid you are wrong as it was quoted by Norwich and Leeds that we paid them money and morison for Beccio - but at the end of the day it dont really matter as hughton does not fancy him now he has him.
Yeah but it was about 200k, saying we bought him for 2-3 is a ridiculous statement. Becchios chances have been limited by circumstance, he will get a shot.
It's not a ridiculous statement at all. Don't be deliberately obstructive - it's clearly explained by zeller. We paid over £2.4m for Morison and I don't think he lost much value given that he scored a fair few in the league. When you add this to the transfer fee of just over £200k, I'd say the combine value is at the very least around £2m and depending on how much you value Morison could be close to £3m. In any event, instead of disputing Morison's value, which is impossible to be certain, how about you consider the other two points? I maintain that Becchio's game time has been bizarre and, as mentioned the other day, it looks like he was just a panic buy or a quick fix to get rid of Morison.
why is it ridiculous? how much would you rate Morison at then? I think he was worth at least 2million. Struggling to get a handle on you Beeforhire, not sure if you like argueing for argueing sake or you really do think your always correct? what ever it is it is always amusing reading so i will take it as you are unique :0)
Conversely, if Becchio had gone to another club with no part-exchange deal, it would have been for a hell of a lot more than £200-£300k - based on length of contract remaining.
One other thing about Morison - weren't he and Holt good mates? Certainly business partners. Maybe Holt's missing his bezzie!
Exactly. Yep, certainly Morison was at his best against Arsenal! Maybe Becchio is the perfect player to play them given that he won't be negated by Mertesacker's height.
Kamara played as a wide forward not a winger He's scored 2 (basically) goals. Becchio is going to get a chance but he's in the boat with lots of other players. You can't play everyone.
Ok then against Arsenal Ruddy Martin Bassong Turner Garrido Bennet Johnson snodgrass Kamara Holt Beccio
