Question is in the title. I noticed a lot of discussion on this from another thread so I thought a poll might help.

Got to go for it against Benfica. Think we can do them considering how shaky their defenders looked. If we can pull it off we'll not only be in a semi final, we'll also have so much confidence and momentum going into the derby.

We'll all feel different if we push for a win vs Benfica but lose, and then we lose to Sunderland.

We aren't quite safe yet. I'd not risk anyone important vs Benfica. It's a derby game, and we want to win it. We need points.

Looking it in a different way, if we finish strongly, and snatch a top 10 place, it would make us look more attractive to players in the summer.

I say we go for the win, and if we lose against Benfica we pretend the Europa league was a hassle we're glad to be shot of :bandit:

Regarding your reasoning, if we finish strongly, and snag the Europa League, it would make us look more attractive to players in the summer.

We're 6 pts clear of the 18th spot now, if we lose we'll be able to focus down on the last few games so I don't see where we won't pick up enough points, so we're more or less safe now. We've gotta really go for the Europa since we're still very much in it. Let's hope we'll rock Benfica right from the get-go and we'll be able to win.

Having picked up 3 pts against Fulham, it puts us in a position to have a little breathing space.

We have to just go all out 100% against Benfica and the Mackems, and then we still have enough games left to focus on after that should we blow out.

I accidentally voted no instead of yes. I think we can beat Benfica and should aim to do so - this building up some positive momentum for our remaining games (this doesn't mean that I think we will get through to the next round)

As it's obvious we're a much better side between the 90th and 95th minute I think we should let Benfica score early doors, play around with them for the about 80 mins then let Cisse score in the 91st, 93rd, 94th and 95th minutes to go through at a canter...<ok>

Now obviously Cisse will need a bit more rest after his late burst of energy so I'd put him on the bench against Sunderland, bring him on in the 90th minute when we've repelled everything they can throw at us and we're only 4-0 up so he can pop a couple in to keep it respectable.

We have got to go for it. European campaigns don't come around every year, plus its better to build momentum than throw it away.

A top 10 finish is far more achievable than winning the Europa League. It's really within our grasp. The Europa League is very against us, odds wise, and the silverware itself is the only thing that's worth mentioning. There's no significant financial benefit.

We'd get the same amount by finishing a 4-5 places up the table.

I want to give Europa a go, but as long as it doesn't affect our PL campaign. PL should always be priority.

    This again.

It has effected our EPL performances so for a while it has been more a hindrance than anything else. This isn't the CL we're talking about. Unless you win the whole things, it's hardly worth even being in.

It's been a nice little adventure but I see us going out in this round by a very small margin. We'll then concentrate on the league and climb up a few places to hopefully a top 10.

But the point, of course, is that if we can somehow get past Benfica, we have a very respectable chance of winning the whole thing.

The English clubs would be the strongest left in the competition, and with Bale out they are nothing to cause trembling.

I'd take 17th and a Europa cup final over 10th any day.

Same here. No way is Pardew giving up on Europa now, and neither am I.

We fought all the way to the Q-finals not just to throw in the towel now.

I can understand why some of our number are worried about our survival status but we can really show future transfer teams that we're a club with ambition if we at least get far in the continental competitions.
I understand that we are facing several more games that could prove taxing to us in our pursuit of survival but I really do think we've the quality to stave off relegation entirely.

I'm sure we've all been dreaming of seeing us lift a trophy after all these years and this is our best chance, we have to go for it now.
