"There is no such thing as society" was there wasn't when she'd finished with it.

Nearly all our ills today can be tracked back to her premiership, she enriched the rich and cast a few pearls for the rest of us to keep the illusion going "we are all in it together".......now where have i heard that before...... a woman died, her toxic legacy continues

Danny Baker just tweeted that she's supposed to be buried next week, but Harry Redknapp's going to try and keep her up.

    <laugh>

    You write this...

"Now we have pensioners dying and frightened to put their heating on cause she privatised Gas and Electric, patients dying of infections picked up in hospital cause she privatised the cleaning of the hospitals and one of the biggest rates of bankruptsy in Europe due to her enabling people to take on credit they could ill afford, then destroying the industries that made this country great ie shipbuilding, steel and mining. LET THE STREET PARTIES BEGIN the bitch is dead"

And then talk about "facts" and "tinted glasses"...and "Muppet". <laugh>

"But.But..But..everyone in the country is now blind and crippled because she sold off Jaguar, honestly sir, everything is her fault"

Of course it is - it's business.

I would think that at some point you may end up working off shore or even onshore in Somalia, Kurdistan, Kenya, The Falklands or Artctic - all new and large finds that they can't get out of the ground.

The Falklands War and the economic recovery had a lot to do with that though.

She wasn't all that popular - it's just that Labour were unelectable.

As someone that works in exploration I can tell you that we have the technology and resources to drill prospects in all of the places you've listed above. The reason they are not currently in active production is entirely political.

    5. EU opt outs, vetos and contribution remission
    6. Reform of employment law - stopped Unions from continually crippling the nation
    7. Vast hospital building/ expansion programme
    8. Got rid of lunatic asylums
    9. Beat the Argies into touch when others were telling her to let them go

Spot on and don't forget the SDP/Liberal nonsense which divided the opposition, plus hindsight is a great thing, if we knew then what we know now (deregulated banks/energy/markets) would she have been re-elected ????

    This ... plus...

In life, I detested the woman for what she did to many communities across Britain, and I saw it first hand during the miners strike. I detested her support of the apartheid regime of South Africa. I think her basic philosophy helped to create the often, uncaring and selfish me, me, me league table driven society that we see now (and I lived through the 60s and 70s). However, she is someone's mother and a former and first female Prime minister. There is no denying she was a strong politician who changed the face of Britain. To that end, with her death I won't forget and will never agree with what she stood for, but I respect that she has passed away and I sympathise with her family.

Not to mention her contribution to the end of the Cold War.
She brokered between the Soviets and the US because she trusted Gorbachev.
Her achievement and influence in this should not be understated.

Very well said Mr.Greaves. Little Maggie, the grocers daughter from Grantham, had bigger balls than all the rest of our so-called "Prime Ministers" combined, restructured the economy to make it more competitive and productive, faced down Cargill and the unions that were destroying the country, helped keep us out of the European mess, and told the Argies to bugger off. What the fat-cat bankers and City types have done to the country in the past 20 years was not her fault. She had real guts and fought an often lonely battle with the old-line Conservative establishment. RIP Maggie.

Ha ha ha...mind you Stan, I've met Carol Thatcher and although she's mad as a box of frogs, she's actually quite lovely with it. She'd be a hoot in the Lord's ...unlike her chinless wonder of a brother.
