aggers not scored a header this year has he? that's a sin IMO... since the injuries he's not hit a shot well for us for many seasons, went reasonably close yesterday mind but i think his backs gone and so he just can't any more... again NOT IMPORTANT. his performance defensively on crosses/set pieces is and that not up to it.

He scored the header in our 1-0 victory over Southampton, the only header I remember him scoring this season though <ok>

I do agree with MITO that we need a dominating defender, but I'd also be happy with Alderweireld as he's got good experience for a 24 year old, Belgian international and regular starter for a top European club.

Also, take Agger out of the team and we have no classy defenders who can play out of defence (Kelly and Wisdom have the potential but not there yet) so if anything, Alder will at least boost our options at the back. And for £7m, it's not a bad deal.

Agger hit a cracker yesterday which was deflected for a corner. To be honest, I'm not too fussed that he isnt hitting them too often. He has the composure to run the ball out of defense, take on a couple of the oppositions players, pass to an attacking player and then continue his run. That's better than just smashing a shot from distance. The problem is that the attacking player doesnt find him again once he has made his run. We wait till only Suarez is in the box (surrounded by 6'4" defenders) and then whip a cross in! :headbang:

True - just commenting that he has the quality to chip in.

From what I've seen of him he'd be a really exciting signing.

In the passing style the best form of defence is possession, resting with the ball. This is a player who for his position is extremely comfortable on the ball. It's a no-brainer.

Come now, we all know that Rodgers doesn't fancy the 'Clear your lines' approach, something which has cost us a dozen points this season alone.
So, given that QPR are all but a corpse, no chance of Christopher Samba appearing in our strip next season...

If only we went in for Kompany and Vertonghen - too physically commanding CB's, both with leadership qualities and confident with the ball at the feet.

  11. I would be happy with this signing so long as it does not effect any other targets or the budget. That is highly unlikely and I don't see TA as a Agger partner, he and Agger will be in competition for a place. Therefore, I'd rather spend the money on a ariel presence. Or, is Agger leaving...? :bandit:

I don't know much about him (ok, I know nothing about him), but if he's another Agger I'm not sure we need him. We need a beast in the box to complement Danny who, though classy with the ball at his feet, isn't very dominant in the air.

  13. Pretty much what I was saying Saint but with the added suggestion that Agger may make way. I can't see it and wouldn't want it to happen since we look like losing Carragher, Coates and possibly Skrtel. Maybe even Reina too <yikes>

Reina? Is there a new rumour about him I've missed?
It's a good point though, Reina dominates his box but can only go so far -the lack of an aggressive CB would be even more disastrous if he were to go.

  15. No rumour. Having served his time, I'm just convinced he will leave this summer to try and win something.

I think Skrtel will leave for various reasons: he doesn't fit the system, BR doesn't rate him, his comments in the media, etc

I think the Dutch league could be to us what the French league is to Newcastle.

Certainly there are some very technically gifted players in the Eredivisie, and with it not being too high a profile league, the price tags won't be overly inflated.

Alderweireld looks a good, assured defender from what I've seen of him. Here's hoping we get him and he turns out like his countryman Vertonghen, who is a brilliant player.
