I've been asked by the administrator and the super moderator to let them know if we can think of anything that would improve the forum. (I would take that to also mean the site generally.) The purpose being, of course, to make the forum as attractive as possible to potential newcomers and to ensure that existing members enjoy it here. If you have any ideas either post them here or PM me. Thanks Ron
On small problem that I've found Ron, is that it's impossible to edit a title. Content is fine, but if a mistake is made with the title, we're stuck with it.
How about daily competition thread? Something like 100pts to begin with. You must select at least 5 races. The top tipster wins a prize... lol
Do you mean a picture of one Cyc? That can be arranged. We could drive around in a car the make/model of which would depend on our tipping success/failure. I currently have a push bike then. I think competition(s) would be good if we could get enough interested. I found that problem with the title Cyc. I'll raise it.
Very funny and I like the idea. We do need a few tipsters who is willing to enter the competition daily. I post my tips daily anyway so I'm up for it.
What rules would you like to see. I tried something different a while back here but not sure that was the best idea. I got the impression from 606 that most people liked points related to odds in some way but we could always run more than one with different rules, depending on what's popular. I doubt a daily competition would go down too well as it's difficult for everyone to get on daily/has the time to select daily. Maybe special competitions for the big meetings and a monthly competition where you can stake as much as you like when you like within your "bank" balance. All ideas welcome.
A weekly competition for Saturdays and for the big festivals/meetings. A bank balance of 100pts. You can back whatever you want but you must back at least 3 different races. Yes points related to odds so if you back 20pts say on a 10/1 shot, a return 220pts. EW is also allowed but we need some people to do the maths. lol
I'm happy to do the sums but I must admit I would like to keep to singles and selections must be named, if that's OK. Once we have settled on some rules I'll just knock up a system for each competition that we run. Maybe if we get several ideas we can do a poll and invite members from other sites to join in the polls and enter the competitions alongside their regular forum(s) if they wish. I'm going to start off then with 3 categories and for each category we will try to discover the most popular set of rules. Category 1. The Gamblers' Den. Start off with a set bank (say ã1,000). Entrants may use as much of the available bank as they like when they like in win or ew single bets. For this category I will try to get the rules I developed for The Challenge on 606 but simplify to only allow single bets and run as monthly competitions. Available odds and SP based. Category 2. The Saturday Challenge. Again single win or ew bets with options being: (a) The At The Races Challenge. Where we follow the ATR team and spend ã100 on up to 3 races. I can enter the ATR team in our competitons and see how many times one or more of us beat them. If we do well I'll email the results over a period to them. We might get a mention. (b) as per STB's suggestion ie use ã100 as you like (in single bets) but must select a minimum of 3 races (c) other option (s) Category 3. Big Race Meeting Challenge. A competition run over the course of the meeting with options being (a) select one horse in every race (SP based) (b) select 2 horses in every race (SP based or points based or hybrid) (c) select 3 horses in every race (SP based or points based or hybrid) (d) have a betting bank (available odds and SP based) (e) other option(s) If anyone has any other ideas and/or views on the above please add them.
I agree shergar shoo ins, havent had them for a while. Ummm the daily comps are good but not everyone always has time to do them everyday.
I think also a daily tips page along with the occasion shergars shoo in a tips page where people can put thier knowldege along with hopefully some inside knowledge
Cheers 007. I agree we won't be having daily competitions. As you say it's too much. There is already a daily tipping page that is set up by whoever gets there first. It always has the same name though (Daily Thread Date & Day. Shergar's Shoe-ins are here but obviously it's down to Shergar to put them up as and when. Do you think we should have a separate thread for "Inside Info" in the hope that we will get some?
The Gamblers' Den Rules (suggestion only) 1. Each monthly competition will begin on the 1st of the month and end on the last day of the month 2. Times are UK time 3. All races in UK, Ireland and France are included. Any selections in races outside these areas will be void 4. Bets may be single win, ew or place only 5. Bets will be permitted at the best available odds and must be clearly stated along with the selection. The odds taken must be available at the time of the posting. If odds are not provided, SP as stated on the Racing Post site will apply. 6. Ante post bets on races within the competition period will be permitted but the available bank must be reduced by the stake at the time the bet is placed and the odds must be clearly stated and available at the time of the post 7. All bets to be advised, on this thread at least 10 mins before the relevant race 8. For the purposes of this competition all place bets will be at 1/4 odds and will apply as follows: 2-4 runners No place betting allowed 5-7 runners 1st and 2nd one quarter the odds 8+ runners 1st, 2nd and 3rd one quarter odds Handicaps 16+ runners 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th one quarter odds Number of runners for determining odds will be the number that came under starters orders regardless of whether or not they took part 9. If a horse takes no part in the race, by not going past the starting line, bets on that horse will be void. 10. At the start of each monthly competition each entrant will start with a nominal ã1000 and may continue to bet up to a maximum of the available bank. The current status of the challenge can be viewed on: (Link)
Yea, hopefully the inside info thread will bring people out to share thier knowledge after it is us (the punters) vs the bookies; We are one big team so hopefully people will see this thread and want to share thiers
And perhaps only have daily comps for big festivals so festival comps e.g. cheltenham, royal ascot etc... the big big festivals they are one off and the races are always of quality so that will bring peoples intrest up too, that with the tips and inside info we wont be able to loose! (so we think!) lol
Thanks 007. We seem to be thinking along similar lines. It's a chicken and egg situation. No eggs, no chickens. No chickens, no eggs. I guess we are the chickens and we need to lay some eggs to hatch some more chickens..... I think.
Thats it! Thats the way to do it!! (kind of) lol. But seriously yea thats why we come on here, discuss our thoughts ask questions and try and win some cash!
Evening Ron my suggestion is......We have about 3 or 4 sites where 606ers are going to,why not put out a challenge to them for a competition, similar to the one we had on 606, NH v flat/allweather. Each site gets ten entrants per team and the winner gets the bragging rights. The plus side of this is that you will get 30 more visits on a regular basis and they have to sign up to the forum to play and may hang around for other discussions on a more regular basis . Islander
Evening Islander. I have already (tonight) posted on 606 and Fugees inviting them to pop over for competitions and to suggest any ideas that would make the competitions appealing (copied post from here with a few more words), but the idea of an inter site challenge is a great idea. Thanks.
