Just read this on Sky Sports http://www1.skysports.com/football/...-was-lucky-not-to-be-sent-off-for-Southampton strange that this view comes out almost 48 hours after the result and nobody else has offered this opinion until now. Perhaps the bravery of their keeper should be looked at.
He's just frustrated more than anything, i would think. No way is it a red card or even a foul. Federici could have done much better plus Jay got the ball. No argument, legit goal.
Non-story if you ask me. Of course he's going to complain about the decision to allow it, even our old friend Adkins said he thought it should have been disallowed. As for it being a red card, it's not exactly a crazy idea. If, like Le Fondre, you're already inclined to believe it shouldn't be a goal, then you have to conclude it was a foul on the keeper and if that had been the referee's decision a red card would not have been particularly surprising. If you see it from every angle you can see Rodriguez made contact with the ball first, but if you're taking a selective view, it looks like a studs-up lunge, so in that respect you can say we got a bit of luck.
MOTD did a good comparison between him and boruc. Boruc put his body on the line and took a thumping but we saved a goal, federici didn't. Reading should be very dissapointed, its one thing lacking quality quite another lacking fight.
Le Fondre is obviously lacking in the braincell department as it was a perfectly fair challenge, let alone a red card offence.
Sky talked about it this morning. The view was, no card, no foul - legitimate goal. Said Federici being so late is what made him hit the deck when he made contact with Rodriguez, and that he bottled it to an extent.
Looking at it again, I can't help but feel that if Federici had been braver, Rodriguez may not have been able to get his foot down in time and it might well have been a nasty challenge. As it was, it was perfectly fair, but as I said, the idea that it might have been red is not entirely without merit.
As a former goalkeeper and current goalkeeping coach I think it's a goal that the keeper has to do better with. Goal keepers tend to forget they can use their hands when they're in those situations.
Le Fondre was even further away from the incident than the referee. The whole incident has been the subject of numerous opinions non of which has to my knowledge suggested it was a red card incident. I think this illustrates the difficulties faced by referee's and the assistants. We have had days to make our opinions up they have only nanoseconds! Had the goalkeeper been quicker out as he should have been he would have got to the ball and therefore the decision would have been different. The ball was there to be won it was a fifty-fifty ball, there was a centre back in attendance as well, Rodder's was fully entitled to go for it. If I am not mistaken looking at it in slow motion the ball hits the ground then the keeper, back into Rodder's then into the net. I accept that I am bound to be biased perhaps, but certainly as far as the punters were concerned, and the vast majority of all the other neutrals they all agreed it was a good goal and well taken. You have to remember that Rodder's too knew he was going to get clobbered. So how Le Fondre gets a red from the incident for me is just sour grapes!!
Anyone who has seen it will no the truth of the situation, so maybe Le Fondre should concentrate more on his own game than bitching about a game that finished two days ago. Maybe he is a tad frustrated with his less than impressive performance. Nigel will try & sign Billy Sharp as soon as the season ends, so the lad has a few things to worry about if you ask me.
Two seconds later and Jay could have been in trouble. I agree with your assessment entirely. He did well, with n elemt if fortune that the keep bottled it.
On first seeing it (on TV) I thought it may be disallowed, watching the replay 100% sure it was a goal. Jrods foot was nowhere near hip height and he got full contact with the ball, his momentum carried him into the keeper. If the keeper had balls then he would have dived at JRods feet, im sure if Le Fondre had scored he would be claiming it was a fair goal.
Non story, every pundit, from every station has already agreed and concluded that Federici adjusted his feet to late and sort of ducked away from the challenge.
I'm looking at it again and Rodriguez pulls his foot to the ground right after he makes contact with the ball so he doesn't hurt Federici. Definitely not a foul. If Federici was looking like getting to it first I'm guessing Rodriguez wouldn't have challenged in the same manner.
Think Le Fondre is trying to take attention away from his 1st half miss? Never a sending off, the mans a tosser.
