I also think he is potentially a great prospect. He will, like most new additions to a squad, take time to settle in. But, as you alluded to, he's quick of thought & deed. I think that in our current circumstances he should be given a chance to play through the centre.

I still fancy that Sigurdsson may do a job for us as a striker.

I just hope we try something that suits our strengths. I don care if kids are called up because they are natural replacements for a certain position that we need cover for.... Whatever.
As long as dembele doesn't go out on the right wing, and Parker and Livermore aren't partnered together. - that definitely doesn't work and it's a totally pointless setting ourselves up like that.

Chirpy's line-up is as good as we're going to get for Sundays game. Much as I hate to include Sig and Dempsey in any Spurs team line-up, their inclussion, for me, is more out of neccessity then choice.

Also, No Holtby for me thanks. He still looks a bit green, dispite his international status.

Some critics might say of Holtby,. that he tends to play the short 2/3 yard pass (backwards ususually) far too often. Which might give the impression that he is not a visionery,.
VDV is prime example. Now he (VDV) could supply the right pass all day long, quite effortlessly. Holtby would do well to watch and learn from VDV. If he's looking to feature in a similar role.

I think we'll have to agree to disagree about Holtby. I don't think he's "green" at all. Sure, he's needed time to adjust to a whole new system - a whole new league. However, his talent is undeniable, to me. He will learn very quickly given game time.

Oooh picking a team - haven't done that in a while!

Although think it picks itself to be honest.

    Lloris
    Walker Daws Verts Benny
    Siggy Dembele Parker Holtby
    Dempsey
    Adebayor

    Subs:
Friedel, Naughts, Caulker, Livermore, Carroll, Hudd + A N OTHER SPURS PLAYER WHO'S FIT & NOT ON ****ING LOAN TO SOMEONE!!!!

I wouldn't agree with that, the passes may well go sideways and backwards, more because there's no movement ahead! I often see players breaking forward then the arms go out to the side, the 'come on, there's nothing on here' gesture.

I think any team will try to play to the strengths of whomever plays CM (if 4 2 3 1)
    or second striker (if 4 4 2)

The big question is, do we want Gylfi for his long dangerous shooting, Holtby for his quickness and passing, Dembele for his ability to dribble past defenders, or Dempsey for his ability to knock the ball into the net at opportune moments (not that there are inopportune ones...).

(crossed out 'Dempsey for his ability to look stoned, sweat a lot and watch the game pass him by'. Want to be supportive.)

    This might be so but,
Players with keen foresight make things happen (Holtby ?) and thats precisely why I sighted VDV. VDV didn't make time to wave his arms about., he played the quality pass, time and time again and to exacting standards. In short, he was a master at making things happen.

    Gesturing !!!
Vain, showboating gestures, of the type being surgested in your post, does nothing at all for the moral of the team. AVB should put an end to this practice streight away. It doesn't look good on the field of play...... As you well know Notso, there should only be one manager and one captain.

I think you'll find that I, many others on this forum, and more importantly, AVB, completely disagree with your view of Holtby. I also think he himself will prove you wrong.

The basic premise you quote is absolutely fine bajan, but my point is based not generally, but in our exceptional circumstances of having not one, but two of the most unpredictable strikers in the league, in chronic form. I defy anyone to predict what JD or Ade are going to do next, and if the only option then is a hollywood pass, I do feel thats a little optimistic if not unrealistic. Atm if the pair of them had the '****s', I doubt either could make a decent run to the loo.

Anyway, I'm hoping for, and expecting a real step up from some of our players tomorrow. If you wanted a chance to establish yourself in the team, now's the time to grab it with both hands.

Let's see who's up for the challenge!

I'm not saying he's without talent and its not a case of proving me wrong., Its just that those talents, in his case, obviously need moulding, to a certain extent. Especially if he's to be used as a first choice creative player. I'm sure you or AVB can't disagree with that.

Also, don't you think he has something to learn for DVD ?.

I just think he needs time to settle in. He's come from a completely different league, different set-up, way of playing, etc. IMO, he needs game time to accustom himself to his teammates, the way they think, their moves, etc.

As I say on another posting, the unfortunate injuries to Bale & Lennon present the opportunity for players like Holtby & Sigurdsson to metaphorically put their hands up and be noticed. To play that well that AVB finds it hard to leave them out.

Let's see who really wants it..

    I'd go for;
    Lloris
    Walker Dawson Vertongen BAE
    Parker
    Siggy Dembele Dempsey Holtby
    Ade

I think we need to protect the back 4 and keep the midfield fluid supporting Ade when needed and trying to control and stifle Everton.

But then again I am **** at tactics and am convinced we're ****ed ... oh the life of a spur!

Maybe our average players will step up to the plate as now we don't have our 'star' players.

Both Dempsey and Sig suceeded at teams that were average. It's time for them to prove themselves and be leaders.

I would prefer not to see Ade. Instead either Naughton and Walker on the right(stopping Baines) or bring in a youngster from U21.
We also need BAE on form as Coleman has repeatedly got the better of us down the right.
