PFA Player of the Year Nominees begin

Discussion in 'Chelsea' started by District Line, Apr 2, 2013.

  1. But stats tell only part of the story.

What about excitement? Thrills? Entertainment value?

It's Bale who has been drawing comparisons from professional pundits with Ronaldo and Messi, not Mata or Suarez.

Surely, that must count for something, too?

****s sake hiag, he's another overrated brit. at one point david bentley was compared to beckham and touted as the next best thing. bale is nowhere near ronaldo/messi and will never be anywhere near them, stop being a delusional tinted spec twat! all of you spuds!

  3. Why are you having a pop, Drogs?

The Messi/Ronaldo comparisons were made by professional pundits, not us Spurs supporters.

Personally, I'd rather that people didn't make the comparisons, because it gives gob-5hites like Zidane licence to tout him as Real's next big signing.

how many professional pundits do you respect? I can think of one, Gary Neville. They're all ****s who haven't a scooby, if Bale was any other nationality then nobody would be blowing smoke up his arse.

Yet Mata is the only one from the short list to be a Champions League winner....like Messi and Ronaldo <whistle>

He's also a world cup and european championships winners...unlike Messi and Ronaldo. <whistle>

Give it to Bale though, he scored a couple of long rangers recently against the likes of West Ham and has about 1 assist all year. <whistle>

Sad though that no Goalkeeper has ever won this. Yet goalscorers are two a penny, and without a brilliant GK a team is totally ****ed

True remember when Giggs won ahead of Drogba despite Drogba scoring 37 goals in 40 appearances that season .

    Comparisons<laugh>Bale<yikes>

When you compare them, one scores 19 games in a row and scores, well scores of goals a season in Messi and collects World player of the year awards like you collect lego lawyers the other scores 50 goals a season and is what Bale could have been if he was better and has been doing it for a long time in Ronaldo, Bale, a good full season between this and last year, 16 goals so far is it?. <laugh>

Messi is just so good without blistering pace that ronaldo and bale have, take that away from them and they're crocked, Messi on the other hand doesn;t need all that pace he's just the best player to have played the game possibly, to compare donkey kong to him, sweet jesus. Careful now, don't miss those straws "pundits said it not us spuds fans" must be true so<laugh> You idiot<doh>

    Nonsense.

Its all about end product. thats what footballers are there to do, how they are evaluated and judged, and what they are paid for.

Bales end product is nowhere near the levels of Mata, Suarez, RVP in terms of goals, assists and clear cut chances created but missed. He makes up for this by doing a random sublime goal from a freekick or a long shot that looks pretty and makes him look good, but its not enough and he hasn't done it all season either like Mata and Suarez have. He was quiet at the start of the seaso

You can't make Bale the player of the year when players like Suarez/Mata/RVP have produced more than him in terms of end product for their team. The post earlier based on The S*ns calculations of contribution to team illustrates this point clearly with Mata and Suarez's scores significantly ahead of Bale.

If Bale had a better amount of goals and assists that spread across the whole season then I'd be a lot more convinced, especially as he has been playing centrally for a good while now too.

Anyone who is willing to put the tinted specs to oneside would admit that its now

    1) Suarez - only just ahead of:
    2)Mata
    3)Bale
    4)RVP.

As a consolation and to recognise the great second half of the season Bales had I'd give him the Young PLayer of the Year award in similar fashion to how it was given to Gerrard in similar circumstances. (Although I think really Vertonghen should get the YPOTY award)

I wasn't actually saying Mata deserved it over Suarez. Just that if a Chelsea player did genuinely deseve it (which to be fair Mata can claim) then he wouldn't get it. Would like Suarez to win though if not Mata.

Bale is nothing but a kick and chase speed merchant, with a particularly powerful acceleration. He's athletic I'll give him that, but on the footballing side, he's just merely good. Technique is nothing special, and his vision and passing are also mediocre.

Besides which, if Bale can maintain his scoring form over several seasons then come back and we can talk about him then.

Bale is great at what he does and it is eye catching, but his game is quite limited really. Kick n chase aint far short as stated above. To be fair, he's added a few more goals this term and it's made him stand out a bit more.

For me, i'd put him in a similar bracket to Hulk but to make comparrisons with a genius like Messi or arguably the most all round footballer in the world in Ronaldo is laughable; whether it's a pundit or a spudling.

Hazard is technically a far better footballer and is not far off Bale's level; especially given he has to share the limelight with Mata and Oscar.

I say it again, Bale's assist stats are woeful; he has less than our right back FFS.

I don't agree Bale is just a kick and rush merchant. His blistering pace is an advantage admittedly and it may mean he can't play at the top level beyond the age of 28/29 but he has excellent delivery from dead ball situations and is also a decent dribbler. He may not have the intelligence on the ball of Suarez or Mata but lets be honest no defender would relish lining up against him. Comfortably the best British player.
