'Cock-up' sees council lose valuable Hull number plates KH1 and 1KH TWO valuable civic car number plates are no longer owned by Hull City Council after they were transferred to another company. The two registration plates â KH1 and 1KH â are reserved for exclusive use on the authority's civic cars, which traditionally carry the Lord Mayor of Hull and his or her deputy to official engagements. please log in to view this image But the potentially valuable plates are now no longer council property. They have been switched to the council's wholly owned building firm KWL as part of a recent outsourcing deal. It has prompted fears they could be sold off. http://www.thisishullandeastriding.co.uk/story-18618627-detail/story.html?#ixzz2PZZEsP3Z
Speaking of brewries, I can remember when we had our own. Regarding the council error, I'm just not surprised anymore.
Wait...so the car fleet is managed by KWL after being outsourced to them from the council, KWL is a building company, which is wholly owned by the council, and has a former Mayor as the director? A minor question would be, if the council owns KWL why doesn't it still own the plates? But my first statement is just gob dropping if that's true. Sweet Jesus.
I was going to make the same point. Ive worked with KWL, they are wholly owned by the council. Why is this an issue?
Because despite being owned by the council, they are still a private company, so if they start losing money they could be forced to sell their assets, which now include two very valuable number plates. Or it the company ever went in to administration, the administrator would take ownership of the plates. A more pertinent question would be, if they are wholly owned by the council, why don't don't they just transfer ownership back to the council?
I used to know someone with an HRH number plate, I think it was HRH 4, they sold it to the royal family. It was worth about ten times the value of the car they had it on, which was a Metro.
If the council 'Wholly own' the building business that now runs the cars, I don't see the difference? Read further down and I see someone asked the very same question.
As a side note, in these times of austerity - is there any real benefit in keeping and maintaining 2 expensive vehicles? Sell them and the number plates and let the plebs suffer public transport - or a rickshaw. Very low maintenance and upkeep costs.
Personalised number plates are a modern day affectation. Like in the 80s when yuppies paid £200. for a pair of leather buckled driving gloves with cashmere lining they are totally unnecessary and somewhat pretentious.
