I didn't see your game but was sort of flicking and in the first half Basel looked excellent and looked as though they were completely overrunning you. Very good outfit.
+1 I've had it with Ade now. I've given him the benefit game after game and always ****e. He might not be the worst each game but he's the only one in the bottom 2-3 in EVERY game. 2 tap-in EL goals doesn't change that. Even Townsend thought he was poor and he thought Walker was playing for most the match!
And is anyone else always nervous when AVB makes a third substitute with 20-30 mins left to play? He seems to have done it a couple of times recently.
Lol - he was calling Naughton Walker, wasn't he? I just thought, after about the third time, that I must have just been mishearing him. Surely no-one can be that **** at their job (not to mention all the other people who should have had a word with him about it)? On ITV they can.
They played in a similar style to how we did last season. Lots of pace out wide and midfielders that were comfortable on the ball and happy to pass it around. Kept the possession well and made us work, but were at their most dangerous on the break, putting quick balls in behind our down the flanks. We don't have the personnel to play like that this season, especially if we've got either winger out. No like-for-like backup, especially now Townsend's at QPR.
ITV should be banned from getting the rights to top football matches until they at least get rid of that idiot Chiles, the self- opinionated fool, Townsend, and the extremely bitter & twisted Keane.
You might get more joy at their place then. I see your 2nd favorite club beat your favourite club in the other Europa tie. Should make things interesting, that's probably the only tie with no clear favourite now.
Not good, a very bad evening for Spurs, but credit to Basel for their fast incisive football. If Lennon and Bale are out then we are in serious trouble but if we have Lennon back it may not be as bad as we fear with the team coming back into it's own knowing they cannot just rely on Bale. Mountains to climb everywhere and not just in Switzerland.
i really hope gallas is dropped for the second game ,he was a liabiity tonight, caulker for me all day
Fenerbache and Lazio? Croydon's the one who feels particularly aggrieved at their presence in Europe this season DL, not me, though I do think that he has a point. Platini probably didn't fancy making a big fuss over it though, given his connections with Italian football. He was at the Lane for our game against Lazio. Di Canio will be furiously frogmarching all over his living room this evening, plotting your demise on the weekend.
All the good work completed during this season., has apparently, been pissed up the proverabial wall., in just one game...chasing one of the micky mouse cups. Utter foolishness if you ask me. Spurs can not build a squad for evenings like these without first securing Champions League football, funny as it may seen. Thats a fact IMO. Soon we'll be abandoning thoughts of Champion League and will be making preparation to kiss goodbye to a couple of the star players (if they're fit for the fitness test, of course). I really don't know who to be more angry at,... me, for almost believing Champions League could actually happen to Spurs twice in a decade,... or be more angry at one or two of the management charactors who are sitting at the high table at Spurs. My glass is certainly half entry this evening..,and it looks like someone has just shot a hole or too in it and its only 10mins to 7 here. The funny thing is..., We didn't even lose.
I don't agree completely, but it's a tough ask. Our youth system has been revamped precisely to address this point, I think. There are a variety of problems with our squad that need to be sorted out in the summer and we need to remove some of the dead wood and make sure that we can cope with absences. Strikers, wingers, full-backs, a creative presence in the middle... we're doing pretty well and probably better than we should be, given our finances, but we're far from perfect.
We don't do much in this cup or any cup because we don't have the depth in quality for a whole season to challenge towards the top of the league as well as cup runs. To win trophies you need a big squad full of quality. We seem to think that we have to get CL football before we can do that. - which is true due to the revenue it brings in. But it's a double edged sword, as this tight fisted approach isn't enough to compete comfortably and get us there. We've managed it once, but it's been an incredibly tough challenge for many seasons now. We have to invest into the squad and try something new. This approach is just such a challenge and is asking too much, IMO.
I think he does. The trouble is half of his runs are wasted running out to the wing. Maybe I'm being optimistic but Ade and Holtby might benefit from Bale being out. Not saying it's a good thing but it's not too dissimilar to Ba and Cisse at Newcastle, as soon as Ba left Cisse was back in his best position and started scoring.
We've been hearing words to this effect for some while now... and I'm sorry, but the problems within the squad should really have been sorted after are last run out in the Champions League. Infact I'm not sorry at all. I'm annoyed at some woeful decission making and taken by those that should know better.
I don't think that it's about money exactly Roo, but more about balance. We've got a variety of players all fighting it out for one position, either alongside, replacing or behind Adebayor and nobody appropriate in various others. Defoe can't play the lone striker role very well and doesn't link up effectively with Adebayor. Bale's preferred to Holtby, Sigurdsson or Dempsey for obvious reasons and none of them has really played well in any other role. Livermore and Huddlestone have all spent most of the campaign sitting on their arses and taking up resources and squad places. Bentley, Jenas and Khumalo were all on the books too and we started the season with four senior goalkeepers. On the other hand, we seem to have had options available out wide and chosen not to use them. Falque and Townsend looked lively down the right when played, but we both loaned out. Two wingers who fell behind in the pecking order to out of position players. Naughton's spent most of the season at left-back, yet Rose has been playing well for Sunderland in that position. More money might not be the answer. Using what we've got in a more sensible manner might be.
