you can just as easily read into it that he want's people of a certain work ethic and mentality as if you look at suarez, gerrard or coutinho whey all try to provide leadership to the rest on that score. Of course that then begs the question of how on earth downing is in his team all the time seeing he's not that brave or the guy to ask for the ball when the chips are down unlike the others mentioned.

I read that as "we don't want primadonnas, we want players that are willing to work hard for the team". That doesn't mean we won't go for a top name if the opportunity should arise, it means we will only go for them if they are also prepared to run through a brick wall!
I guess the way I look at it is the likes of Llorente, Damiao, Coentrao, etc we won't go after. Those who are in that tier right below the world class players.

I want a players first quality to always be effort, talent comes next. If a player is not willing to work hard they can do one as far as I am concerned. Perhaps why I supported the likes of Kuyt, Lucas and Henderson whilst they took stick of many fans!
