- just for one day - for 90 minutes this Friday night. I expect Port Vale v Burton will be on Sky. I'll be watching and hoping for an away win - I believe that scenario will help Gills most.
All Gills fans will be cheering for Burton on Friday!!! If we beat Torquay, then due to our superior goal difference... Cheltenham, Burton and Rotherham cannot get past us!! If Burton can draw at Port Vale - max points for Port Vale 84 If Burton Win - max points for Port Vale 83 Three more points won by us, or lost by Port Vale will seal the Championship Oops - forgot about Northampton - unless they win every match they will not be able to catch us on 82 points.
I've been reading on various boards that if Vale/Burton is a draw, we can clinch promotion (certain) by beating Torquay. If that is correct...... DRAW PLEASE So that home fans can celebrate it.
SirKeefy - not quite. It would still be possible for 3 other teams to finish above Gills - if they win all their games - but Rotherham would only achieve this if they score a huge number of goals - to overtake our goal difference as Rotherham can only achieve 82 points - which is what we would have if we beat Torquay.................... be patient - most of you have not seen Gills as league champions - others have had to wait 49 years ... a few more days won't kill you!
If the 3 teams that could still overtake us are Vale, Northampton & Rotherham, (assuming Vale/Burton draw so Burton cannot overtake 82 points) then only 2 of those could get past 82, cos Vale still have to play NTFC. They can't both get 3 points in that game. So, if I am looking at this correctly, if Vale/Burton is a draw and if we beat torquay and get to 82 points. Then - Only 2 other teams can get to 82 points or more. Rotherham plus Vale or NTFC. I hope this is right. Please correct me if I'm wrong (again). Afraid I'm not "alwaysright" All of this is academic anyway. All of those teams have not had consistent winning runs all season. I don't think 3 of them are going to start now.
I am not good at looking at all this but by the sounds of it that is correct, but I would like Vale to lose but a draw would be good other than that.
I'm working Friday night so will not be able to hear the Burton/Vale game, however, in truth I don't really care who wins. The only problem as I see it is I do not have a ticket for the Cheltenham game, the only one at this end of the season that I'm missing. So sods law we will be Champions that day I will wait to Saturday night to decide whether to have a last minute change of heart but by then it will probably be too late to get a ticket.
Port Vale v Burton doesn't appear to be televised on Sky ( some rubbish Scottish game instead ) - and I can't find it on a streaming channel .
The Shouting Man Today I shall be concentrating my efforts on The Gills. I'm not sure that I could Fat- man- Evan's- stomach cheering on the Millers. Talking about fans and friends - It's amazing how many people have wanted to 'know' me since I announced that I had spare tickets for the last 2 home games & the Burton match.
alwaysright - come in the Cricks today and we could play best mugger wins and don't forget your Burton tickets are already claimed
