The last thing China wants is a war. They know DPRK would get annihilated and this would lead to the US having military ground right on China's doorstep

So much so that they could even take the side of the US.

Are they not more reliant on the West these days? Even if that is contrary to what they'd like people to believe...

I don't think China would want to risk losing their biggest trading partner over North Korea.

Indeed. They also would like to avoid tens of thousands of North Koreans fleeing across their border. I think, if a war was to kick off, China would want it over with quickly, and they could take that into their own hands by helping the US and South Korea take out the DPRK leadership and deal their citizens a healthy dose of freedom.

The only thing that scares me about this situation is the minute chance of Cold War nukes being activated. If any nukes are launched (particularly from America) there is a chance that some old crapped out computer in the basement of a Russian Government basement could react without needing human interaction.

One would hope Russia would have sorted anything like that out.

Your post reminds me of the Family Guy episode where Mayor West is a Russian sleeper agent. <laugh>

That's absolutely the reason. It's also the reason that China has propped up that regime for so long...if KJU et al fall, they'll have a couple million refugees on their border in a matter of hours.

I can't see anything coming from this. Their bark is almost certainly without a bite.

The interesting bit is figuring out who the target of this is. The US and South Korea are ultimately peripheral...he isn't going to strike either, they're just foils. But is this meant for internal consumption only, risking the relationship with China, or is this a means of leveraging his position to get more from China itself? China stands to lose the most from this, and they know it.
