If the worst does happen this season, as is looking increasingly likely - should Beard resign? For me he should. TF and the other owners put him in place to run the club day to day, and to make strategic decisions. He is full of the talk, but cannot walk the walk imo. How many decisions has he got right? And the biggest failing for him is his interaction with the fans. At the fans forum he spoke well and seemed genuine and encouraged fans to e-mail him any issues. I havent heard anyone say that he has replied to them, despite this point being raised with him at the time. Imo he should be replaced for someone who knows about football, and who understands the fans.
Knee jerk **** is the last thing this club needs. Beard may have pissed of a few monomaniac supporters groups by not answering their emails within 3 minutes, but look at what he's done in the past, thats what he's here for.
Mmm........I'm not convinced making a scapegoat of Beard is the way to go. Him and Fernandes are football "virgins" and I just hope that they learn from their mistakes. Beard should be the right man to take us to a new ground after his success with the dome imo.
Not knee jerk at all imo. What has he actually done right for QPR? Btw, this thread isnt about making knee jerk reactions, its about creating a talking point for us to discuss.
obviosuly beard is not alone in making errors, but imo it is best to have a chairman or chief exec who are experienced in football as running a football club is not like a normal business. im not trying to make a scapegoat here at all, many people have made mistakes culminating in our position in the table.
Fair enough Judo, didn't mean to snap. But lets be clear its the players and 3 consecutive managers in the prem who have let us down, getting rid of Beard won't help anything. Like Col I think he's here for what TF wants to build. Man am I sick of being at the bottom of the league.
Fair enough mate, just realised my post came across as a bit confrontational as well. Perhaps not the best timed thread topic, emotions are running high throughout the fans right now. Looks like i'm alone in my view though! 1-8 so far!
If he was interferring in football matters this would be a worry. However as you pointed out he is more involved with the infastructure i.e. new training facilities and the mundane day to day running a business and doing PR work etc and he appears to be doing a good job but what goes on behind closed doors is anyones guess. just can't please everyone all the time just look at the comments on this board they change like the wind. Rome wasn't built in a day or a couple of seasons!
Generally in business, there should be some medium term and long term plans. No business will succeed if the person formulating the plans is replaced due to short term objectives being missed. IMO we got promoted too early. Really we needed another year or two in the Championship to build a foundation within the squad to enable us to develop and maintain our Premier League status. Beard & co were pleasantly surprised by our promotion and some of the decisions were reactionary rather than properly considered. Ask yourself, realistically what would you have done in Beard's & Tony's position. Most of us would have made the same mistakes. When in an unfamiliar business, it takes time to develop understanding of the business practices and how quickly things change. A bit like driving an unfamiliar car, you take some time to get used to the different handling, equipment & general feel of the car; business is no different. What Beard & co have brought is some financial stability and stated long term objectives that will progress the club in years to come. What would you prefer the Paladini, Flavio, Ecclestone days again?
I can understand why you say that, not entirely his fault that he left us with a divided squad (I'll blame Barton for that) that lacked youth, pace and quality (Goons can be blamed). But the weakness of that squad necessitated the wholesale importing of new blood since. And we didn't buy the right ones.
If we lose Beard we take a MAJOR step backwards in my opinion. He is the the one who can and will steer us back to success.
absolutely no way he should go as someone said its the infastructure he's involved in, ok he might have got a few deals wrong if it was down to him though, good man keep him.
Absolutely crazy, the man is sharp as a razor and to my knowledge is incapable of telling a bare-faced lie. You can keep your Van Dycks, Full Beard is the only man for the job. Must dash now, I'll get my coat.
I see his as running the club on a day to day basis when TF is out of the country. He signs the contracts but doesn't choose which players to sign. He has no say over the football side of things as far as I know and on that basis, I voted no. He is here to build a new stadium and ensure we have the fans to fill it once its built. Whether we are top, middle or bottom is not his responsibility as far as I'm concerned.
A level headed approach will often reap the reward ................ just hope that if worst comes to worst, we all stick together as fans and as a club. It would be very easy to start taking shots at people within the club but the fact is, we all want whats' best for the club and if the **** hits the fan and we go down, let's all stick together to ensure we give our team the very best opportunity to bounce back the following year. I'm sure TF will appreciate a united front from the fans ........................ and let's face it, he pays the bills and we shouldn't be seen to bite the hand that feeds us. Last thing we want is a disinterested owner like Blackburn have.
