I don't mind been beaten by a better team but I can't stand being out fought. Outfought would imply we did fight. We didn't. Stocky ok no chance with the goal Hobbs ok plays within himself too much for me. Never a goal threat Chezzy ok Faye ok Brady ok The rest piss poor and weak as piss. A team of Italians out fight ya FFS. A couple of 50/50's Elmo and Koren pulled out of we're a disgrace. Who wanted to win it more us or them?
THIS I agree with. I thought the back 4 did ok; and Simpson too. Watford just wanted it more and the desire Deeney had for the goal as just better than ours. Besides, the best tackle of the night was when Koren pulled out and their player made a terrific sliding tackle... and half the East stand wanted a free kick. They just wanted it more; was a shame really. I disagree with Brucey, I thought they were worth their win. Credit where credit's due.
Yep. They simply out-Hulled us! They did to us what we've done in so many away games to other teams this season. Fair play to them. Despite the fact we had 15 shots (10 on target) to their 6 (3 on target) and 55% of the possession to their 45%.
Thing is we don't do that. How often have we created less than the opposition this season? Hardly ever IMO. When we 'grind out' 1-0 away wins we do it by restricting them to hardly any chances. Watford relied on their 'keeper. They were better than most sides yes, but on another day we'd have scored. Same with Forest.
That's two home games in a row we've deserved to lose thanks to the way we've approached them. Following the Forest game: Excluding the bit about leading the bold bit seems like a pretty good description of the first half. Second half it reversed and we took control of things, but thanks to their keeper we couldn't get back into it in the way that mattered. I also said: Quinn looked much more like his normal self so it was presumably tiredness. As for Meyler, as every other bugger lost or drew at the weekend I would have rested him at Huddersfield, being ahead our job is to do what we can to maintain the lead, so a draw at Huddersfield and having him available tonight to stop Watford winning would have been a better end result.
Because nobody put pressure on the player with the ball, or put a foot in. Huge missed opportunity and other than 2-3 players a ****ing shocking display. Needed dare I say it a McLean type player to set the tempo from the front.
What ****ing game where you lot watching/listening to. Watford outplayed us during the last 30 minutes of the 1st half and unfortunatly scored due to to no one closing Deenay down. The rest of the match was City and if it hadn't been for Watford's excellent young goalkeeper we would of been 2 or 3 up. Watford where certainly not the better side and a draw would of been a fairer result.
Agree with the above post, they bossed a good 30 minutes of the first half but we were largely on top for the rest of the game. Watford, like Burnsey said, ourt city-d us and fair play to them for doing so. Once they gained a foothold in the game about 15 minutes in we suddenly became all rabbit in the headlights and just couldn't keep the ball at all. Unfortunately, that spell cost us. We know this squad can battle though, Huddersfield and Burnley away to name but two games. Lets get behind the lads for these next 6 games, it is ultimately still in our hands.
I'm fairly pragmatic about football results and how they come about, but I was not aware of any poor match-robbing decisions, no in-game team weakening by injury or punishment, so we lost because we were not good enough to win; Watford were. I believe Stockdale had a good game and made at least one fine save, probably another almost as good just after that, if my memory serves me right from the commentary; my question is whether or not their young goalkeeper really was the difference or just a sop to inconsistency. Perhaps the difference was that they took their chance and we did not. We are not a team renowned for having a decent tally of goals in games and when you look at the strikers we fielded, you have to ask why. I have said on the 'Simpson' thread that as a striker I believe him to be a passenger; take into account that Robert Koren is lightweight and barren of the goals that masked his tendency to go AWOL for huge periods, then we have a performance goal-scoring engine with a serious misfire. This misfire effects the performance of everyone else, Brady and Elmo can run and run, but they need to see some end result; Boyd needs to have his best position recognised and the team set up for his game if that is where the goals are going to come from (is he really an out and out striker??). Gedo needs a fair crack of the whip and time to pick up again. Centre midfield is crucial to our performances and Alex Best would be as suited to it as Alex Bruce; he is a defender, a decent one, a centre-back and playing him in the middle is inviting problems. Defence was not our problem last night, but we did have problems. I'm not despondent and it did not sound like we were so very far from the win last night, but there are some key factors, the factors I have mentioned, that are making us a very inconsistent team who should have had this promotion race sorted by now. Steve Bruce might question some of his own decisions and as supporters we should reserve the right to question them too.
Sorry Fez but if you didn't see the game how can you comment on who was the better side and why we didn't score?
It's alright saying their keeper kept them in it and we'd have won without him, but apart from the save from Boyd's volley (which should have been buried and given him no chance) how many of his saves were ones you wouldn't expect a top half Championship keeper to make? I can't really remember any. We created chances but no real clear cut ones, and our best chance apart from Boyd's was the rebound from Koren's shot in the middle of the area that Gedo and Simpson just watched.
Koren doesn't seem to have the character/personality to be captain.. he doesn't lead by example. Chester for captain.
That's a fair point but it was still far more than they created. They literally had one chance and scored it. The thing that makes it evem more frustrating is they didn't penetrate our defence once all game. They didn't enter our penalty area at all, just one long shot cost us the game.
Their keeper didn't keep them in it their defence did, didn't let us have a sniff or create anything clear cut. Whenever we got half a sight of goal they harassed us making us snatch at our shots so the keeper only really had tame efforts to deal with, bar one or two great saves at most. The best thing their keeper did was collect most our crosses.
