Morning All, A short list has been drawn up to succeed Warnock with McDermott and Poyet on the top of the wish list. All of this is irrelevent unless GFH are willing to give the new Manager significant funds to invest in the Summer. Will it be 3m, 5m, or even a 10m pound investment that will be needed in order to return to the promised land. Do we wait until the end of the season to appoint someone, or should we strike whilst the iron is hot. How many more of our youngsters have the potential to brewak into the first team in the next 18 months. In the past names such as Batty, Speed, Milner, Delph, Lennon and many many others have made huge names for themselves by coming through our youth ranks. Is Dawson the next big name? Now that Warnock is gone, who should be told they no longer have a future at ER? Out of Warnocks signings, which ones can we realistically get money from?
Morning Elland. I see O'Leary's popularity as a possible successor increasing big time on twitter last night. 75% popularity among those that voted. He may not be a bad choice, I wouldnt be too unhappy. Would likely give the young uns a chance. However, personally I'm far more interested who the new owners will be, as I think that is of far greater importance at the moment. I see gfh have said talks are ongoing with further investors. Lets hope they have real money and a knowledge of football and Leeds United or we could easily become the next Portsmouth
Morning elland. I have said for a very long time now that it doesn't take that much investment to get out of this league. I believe that 75% of the clubs in this league can get out of it spending approximately 3m in transfer fees, this doesn't include wages but they don't have to be out of the ordinary wages anyway. You have to have a smart manager that knows what he is doing but I don't believe it takes as much as what many people would have you believe. Warnock spent this I will have you know as well. I calculated he spent approximately 3.5m give or take. Admittedly losing players such as Snodgrass and Clayton but he still did very poorly with the money he had, he ended up getting rid of half the squad to replace them with equal quality whereas he coulda just kept em if that was his plan and added stronger players. Saying that I would prefer if we invested closer to the 5m mark Of the current squad I would say goodbye to the likes of White, Bromby, Brown and Varney. I wouldn't be signing Habibou either. I think the likes of Austin and Pearce will improve drastically next season or I hope they do because I have seen enough in them to think there is a quality player in there somewhere but Warnock wasn't getting the best out of em. Its quite an aged squad and I think we need some positive energetic younger players added more than anything. Personally I would sign a first choice CB to replace Peliter and maybe move him out to RB and pushing Byram further up to RM. An LM, RM and CM with the current players stepping away from the first team to become backup (dependant on how Byram progresses, next season will be huge for him IMO, he needs to maintain/step-up for me to become an important member). Regardless of current views about McCormack and Morison, I still believe they can be a deadly strike force for us given a pre-season espeically. May need to sign cover for that position to keep them on their toes more than they currently are and if they get injured. I think the midfield is a more important place to improve. As for manager, pfft. I change my mind all the time over this. I think McDermott would be the safe option but Poyet would be my first choice and we really should push the boat out to get him and convince him he has a bettr chance of PL with Leeds than Brighton and a better chance of pushing for real success in the future. Failing Poyet I would be tempted to take a risk and go for Solksjaer, that may not be a popular choice for many reasons but its just a matter of time for me that he makes the step over to england, it is a much riskier option though. There aren't that many good candidates out there, one I would definitely stay away from is Martin O'Neill, he seems to have lost it for me and he also does play a lot of hoofball. I wanna see nice football again at Elland Road, it'll create a more positive mood around the place as well
Morning all - We badly need a win to secure any fears of relegation, then the board can take their time and get the right person in. We are not safe from the relegation zone, yes it would take a brave man to bet on us going down but it is a possibility. A new manager in now and he could possibly end up taking us down, that wouldn't be a great start and it might be putting a few candidate off joining us until we have secured another season in this division. I would like a win next game and a new man in the hot seat at least 2-3 games before the end of this season.
I wonder do gfh even know enough about football to realise bottom three are relegated and that could be us, thus their investment gone up in smoke. Doubt if bates bothered to mention it in the fine print and Im sure due diligence had nothing to do with football matters anyway
O'Leary was not a great Manager. He was very lucky timing wise as at the time he took over, Kewell, Smith, Woodgate etc were coming through the ranks. O'Leary spent and wasted millions on players, then blamed it on Ridsdale / board for not backing him on other players. I heard rumours about backhanders etc during players transfers which painted DOL in a very negative light.
With limited budget Grayson managed to buy Asda Price players Warnock replaced them with Aldis own players. We need someone to build a M&S squad on a limited budget
Blimey Josh, you been busy fella. I believe LUFC would have to spend 6 million plus to stand any chance of going up. Only our youngsters are worth keep, plus S Warnock, and maybe Ross
Morning all. As Leicester are fast discovering, its not how much ou spend but what you spend the money on and how adept the Manager is at putting a side together that will compete & play some decent stuff. Can't recall the Norwich side that went up spending vast sums, or the Swansea team either. So I think £3m to £5m invested well by the right Manager should see us at least safely in the top 6 if not top 2.
But it's the top two we need to aim for. Too many people mentioning top six as a target. Playoffs are still only a lottery. We need to be where Cardiff are
With limited budget Grayson managed to buy Asda Price players Warnock replaced them with Aldis own players. We need someone to build a M&S squad on a limited budget and all you got was Morisons
I can't fault Morison tbh mate Monday he didn't have one chance. Hes probably had 5 chances since he joined us and scored 3 lol
Knobby apparently he had a hatful against Ipswich and couldnt hit a barn door according to your lot Thats sounds more like the Morison i know
Why has snoddy tweeted that Leigh Bromby is u18 coach? Did I miss something? @robsnodgrass7 "Well done to my 2 ex team mates at leeds Leigh Bromby u18 coach Richard naylor 1st team coach #topblokes"
Evidently you missed the announcement that Richard Naylor will be leaving his coaching job with the U18s to assist Neil Redfearn, and Bromby will be taking over there temporarily.
