Listened on 5live for some of it and Savage was the co commentator. He actually praised us a lot which was nice to hear and he just said we aren't breaking any rules so tough luck as to the loans! Top class goal from Deeney and good to see Bond put in another impressive performance between the sticks. Shame another centre half got injured but always handy to have somebody like Doyley to bring on! Great travelling support - that was praised too. BTW When did Buaben come from.
Big big win, reality is though, we are still in third but much closer to second now. One down, six classicos to go !!
Well done to the tigers who have already come on to praise us after this win - must be hard in such a big game. With all the Wumming on here in recent weeks its good to see true football fans with good sportsmanship and 'losing well' So delighted we held on for 50 mins against a very good Hull side - as someone has already said - 'we did a Hull on Hull'. Couldn't have taken much more so was a massive relief at final whistle! Good to see that we have the battling qualities to go with the skill and panache. Well done to Cassetti, Battochio et al for putting in such a shift. Bring on Cardiff on Saturday!
After such a woeful defensive display against Burnley that was unexpected. A great result! Listened to the R5 commentary and it sounded as though we passed the ball well at times, Chalobah was class in the first half and Bond throughout. Every game's a big one now...for us and Hull.
Just got into my office and read the whole of this thread. Really gutted to have missed the gamebut great win. Fair play to the Hull fans. They seem to be the best in the Championship.
You played well today! Granted we made it easy for you though having 11 men on the pitch (Koren - was a disaster!). Will be a great end to the season now. At least it's interesting.
Credit where credit's due, Watford were very organised tonight. Well disciplined and came to do a job which they did successfully. A tad disappointing as I was hoping for a fast-tempo attacking clash, but Steve Bruce set up for a draw and got his team selection wrong (Starting Alex Bruce in midfield is always a bad idea at home) and Watford seemed to just absorb pressure and counter-attack. Without being biased, I would say we were the better team but we lacked that clinical edge and bit of luck needed to stick the ball in the goal. Meyler getting banned against the 'Udders on Saturday really hurt the team today, we had to play Koren who had an absolute howler along with Bruce and with Quinn (who made a MASSIVE difference when he came on) injured and not being risked for the full 90 minutes, our midfield was definitely nowhere near it's best. Our defence were amazing and you're keeper was great too. If Boyd had have put it at either side of the goal rather than the middle, it would have been 1-1 at Half Time. I have to say though, the diving was horribly embarrassing from a Watford point of view. The referee fell for every single Superman impersonation and it slowed the game down. The amount of times Deeney elbowed/backed into/headbutted/kneed/slapped Faye in order to win a header was disgusting. It's a shame because I really thought Watford passed, moved and defended well but my impression of them was harmed by foul, foul tactics. The, "We are going up" chants were a tad premature too considering the Table still stands as: 1. Cardiff City 2. Hull City 3. Watford We play Middlesbrough on Saturday whilst you play Cardiff and if we win and you lose, the gap is back to four points with you having a harder run-in than us. Enjoy your Cup Final win anyway lads and good luck for the rest of the Season.
I suppose it was to be expected - we would get a foul mouthed, sour, bad loser of a Dull fan coming on with the usual crap excuses for not being able to beat us. Get over it dear....
Don't take what I type tonight to heart because I've had about 13 too many today/tonight. It was a cousin's Birthday party earlier today at 11am so I've drank then too added to the pre-match drinking and after-match drinking. I tend to type stupid things. I'll heavily regret this tomorrow.
Its not that bad..seen worse. Least we got some praise (begrudging I am sure!) Deeney probably dived because the other week when he didn't go down whilst having a shirt pulled against Blackpool he got NOTHING! I agree its not a positive part of the game but if officials don't give clear free kicks/penalties for fouls just because a player stayed on his feet then its no surprise they all fall over.
Another City fan here- weldone on beating us tonight. I'm not happy with the result, but i can respect when a team deserves to beat us.
Can never listen to Watford on the radio and tonight I watched the PSG v Barca game to try and take my mind off the BIG match being played. But what's with the back handed compliments, Candy Man? Not necessary you know. Not having seen the match I can't really say how many times "Deeney elbowed / headbutted / kneed / slapped Faye to win a header"... but I can tell you this: Deeney has had nothing off the referees for months and we have been wondering whether or not he'd actually win a freekick if someone took his leg off with a chain-saw. So if he did any of the above (all red card offences in case you didn't know) then it's long overdue that something actually went his way. And I am not surprised we got the win... check out Mr Madley's stats for the season - he is not a 'homer' by any stretch of the imagination. Cheating Italians? We've just the one on the park and he is by no means a cheat. Couple of Argies, a Swiss, a Swede, a Czech, a Dutchman, a Scot... but mainly English (and I don't care if Doyley does play for Jamaica, he's as Jamaican as Vinnie Jones is Welsh)... are you Hollowhead in disguise? As to our fan's 'going up' chants, of course it is premature... every last one of them would know that - typical football bravado, and well sung too! The table as it stands does not matter... the table at 3.15 or so on 4th May matters. There are plenty of twists and turns to come no doubt and you have the points in the bag... it's yours to lose. Personally I think Cardiff have the toughest run in of the three of us. It's gonna be close and, as I said elsewhere, the nightmare scenario going into the last game is Hull and Cardiff needing a draw to secure promotion regardless of how we do against Leeds. Then we'll see who's 'timewasting their way...' - West Germany v Austria 1982, anyone? Six cup finals to go, the one against Hull no longer matters.
